really, he looks like he's not trying, he needs to want it more i think, just doesn't seem that way.
Im sure he wants it but for him it is so hard to play a good game of tennis on a consistent basis. He still somehow gets broken which means he needs to do some breaking of service of his own. I really hope for tennis in Australias sake that the Gooch stays in the top 100 until the begining of next year where he will have lots of points to defend in Sydney. At this rate he wont even directly qualify for the US Open.
His decision to skip the claycourt season to "work on his game" before the grasscourt events is now looking like the stupidest decision in the universe. At this rate he won't make the cut for the Aussie Open...even the US could be touch and go.
i note that he has pulled out of the TA squad to go it alone. He is working currently with Darren Cahill and will be looking for a full time coach very soon. I think this is a very good decision. He has done well but the full time coach is necessary for his full potential to be reached. I wish him well as we certainly need him playing at his best! Good luck in the qualifiers.
Yes, glad he hs pulled out of AIS.
But he will still be a partial scholarship holder, apparently.
Who would suit him as his new coach?
Cahill would be great for him IMO. Failing him, Roger Rasheed might get a phone call...maybe even Jason Stoltenberg
