Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
he really does need a breakthrough at a grand slam to get himself going... hes not taking his chances at the big tournies yet... he needs a good run at the us open or next year at the aus open...

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
Guccione drew 18-year old American wildcard, Donald Young, in the first round. I tip Guccione to win in four sets

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
I have a bad feeling about this one for Chris...I only hope he can blow Young off court. The youngster's had better results recently than Chris, beating Delic and pushing Davydenko all the way. I hope the US media whip up a bit of a frenzy and put the Young kiddie under some more pressure.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
Yeh hes never gonna live up to his potential, u watch him play and he just doesnt seem to want it enough. He looks like hed be content to win one average atp title in his career and be less prominent and less succesful than arthurs. Im guessing that all he really wants is to make enough money to earn a living, occassionally push top players and then win some DC matches with being part of a winning DC team as his major dream (and thats only possible because hes got such good back up in lleyton and the rising stars). It was pitiful to watch, he doesnt even know what hes doing on the court.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
Chris lost the fourth rubber of the Davis Cup tie against Serbia to Noak Djokovic 6-3, 7-6, 7-6. Although it seems close (I didn't watch the match) I can guess the break down. Chris served well but lacked any penetration on his groundstrokes and made unforced errors when he went for winners. He volleyed okay but was resigned to the fact the ball had passed him even though it was within reach. And he simply doesn't move well enough to cause Djokovic too many problems

yeah, he just went for some wrong shots at wrong times during points and until he learns to play points a lot better, he's not going to improve his ranking. he should of won that 3rd set, played great to get it to 5-2 in the TB but at 5-4 really should of hit a better volley than he did. It was a decent effort from chris, considering his results lately.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
He is on a three week expedition to South America playing three challengers on clay at altitude starting next week. Last year he had amazing results there winning two challengers back-to-back and beating Canas. Needless to say even if he does well here he is not likely to stay in the top-100 because he has so many points to defend.
It seems the altitude really helps his serve being unreturnable.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
Yeah, i can't see him being in top 100 after the south american tournaments, it's a real shame because he had a great chance to help boost his ranking. Hopefully he can pick up his form (he played decent against djokovic) and win these south american tournaments, otherwise he's screwed.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
The Gooch won his first match in Columbia 7-6(5), 6-2...
Here's hoping he can have some more wins and keep a place in the top 100

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
The Gooch won his quarter final 6-4, 6-3, meaning he hasn't lost a set in making the semi finals. It seems like he's in good form, hopefully he can keep it up.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---
Final against Eduardo Schwank, a very good start to his campaign. I think the draw has been kind with his opponents coming off marathon matches while Chris has cruised through in straight sets. It will be a tough ask to keep this up until next week (which he needs to do to keep his ranking), but winning tournaments is nice anyway (his last win was in this very same tournament which was a week earlier last year).
