Default Russia & France nominate teams

The Davis Cup final is just one week away and Russia and France have named the teams that will battle for the trophy. The final takes place November 29 to December 1 at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy, on an indoor clay court.

According to Davis Cup rules, nations must nominate their official four-man squad at least ten days before a tie, in this case by Tuesday November 19. After that two nominations may be changed up to an hour before the draw that will take place on November 28.

RUSSIA

The Russian Tennis Federation has nominated the four-man squad that will fly to Paris to try and snatch the Davis Cup trophy from France. The team is as follows:

Marat Safin, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Mikhail Youzhny, Andrei Stoliarov. Captain: Shamil Tarpischev.

Safin and Kafelnikov have had success on clay. Kafelnikov won Roland Garros in 1996, while Safin reached the semi-finals there earlier this year. The Russian team will prepare for the final at the Monte Carlo Country Club between November 17 and 23

FRANCE

The French Tennis Federation has named a five-man squad that will receive the Russian machine next week. They are:

Arnaud Clement, Nicolas Escude, Sebastien Grosjean, Paul-Henri Mathieu, Fabrice Santoro. Captain: Guy Forget

The French team is currently training from Sunday 17 November at the Roc Garden Tennis Club in Royan. Doubles specialist Michael Llodra has not been chosen despite being cleared to attend by doctor Bernard Montalvan after suffering from an abdominal injury.

France's captain Forget stated earlier that he believed that "the Russians are better than us, on any surface", however he is confident that Grosjean can beat Kafelnikov and Safin on clay.
