can one of you locals tell me how good the public transport is in Montreal? everything easily accessible? i'm debating as to whether to hire a car or not....i was also told the surrounding areas is nice so thought travelling by car is easier

The transport system is pretty decent here. i don't have a car and i get every where the bus and metro. most buses come every 20 minutes or so. and there is only a 5 minute walk from the metro to the venue
The area around the Tennis stadium is kind of a ghetto.. you won't get mugged or anything, but do yourself a favor and don't walk around with an expensive camera around your neck. but the park itself is beautiful..

but you might want to hire a car if you want to travel outside of town.. it is beautiful there.

like mistry said, the transport system is decent !!! i think is more easier if you dont know montreal ^^ i take always the metro to go at the tournament...

agreed... plus there's never any parking near the venue..

Transit from your hotel is a breeze. You don't even have to go outside to get to the subway from there. In fact, you don't have to go outside to get anything in that area, apparently. That hotel, the train station, some underground food court mall thing.... it's all connected. If I recall correctly, you'll have to transfer metro lines once, but it's nothing.

Oh, and the McDonald's on the metro stop corner up the street from Jerry Parc is probably the nicest thing in that area, but somebody already covered that
