Federer. The only ones that can beat him are Jo and Tomas and the latter has to get by Ferrer.

I would be pretty surprised if Federer didn't make the final. Tsonga certainly could be an issue, as we saw in his matches against Novak last year and against Federer in Australia, but I'm not sure if Tsonga will even be able to reach the QFs to meet Federer. If Ferrer makes the SFs with Federer, then historically speaking, Federer should be able to cruise. However, given Ferrer's rather poor form since Miami this year, I'm not sure if David will get that far. Berdych after all may take Ferrer out in the QFs, but it will be interesting nonetheless since they haven't faced each other on clay since 2007.

Hopefully not Federer, unless there was a Madrid 2009 type match in the semifinals he would get blown off the court by either Novak or Rafa.

It will be a surprise finalist. Since 2010, Federer has only reached one slam final every year. AO in 2010. RG in 2011. Wimbledon in 2012. USO in 2013? Could be.

MC: no surprise finalist
Madrid: surprise finalist
Rome: no surprise finalist
RG: surprise finalist?

I'm sure everyone thought Novak would blow Fed off the court in 2011. He didn't even blow him off the court last year. Fed was in the first two sets.

You call that blowing him off the court? Fed was up a break in the first and a double break (IIRC) in the second. He was rolling at times in that one but Nole was more consistent. I guess if you call that a blow-out then you call their USO semi in 2009 one as well?

I do not think Benneteau will beat Federer in BO5 at GS even at RG ,That will not happen soon. Pablo Busta defeated Benneteau and everyone think that Busta could defeat Federer, Gill Simon has two wins vs Federer but Federer like every player has a bad and good days.
Can someone tell me when was the last time Federer has a defeat by a player who is out of top 8 at GS ?

Tsonga, Wimby 2011, #19, and Berdych, Wimby 2010, #13. But before that it was Kuerten, RG 2004, #30.

Default Re: Who will be the finalist from the bottom half?

Berdych has a great chance. The only issue I have seen with him is that during the business ends of sets in tight matches he misses way too many first serves. If he can keep his first serve % high at crucial moments he can get to the RG finals.

Anybody who could beat this Nole coming from behind 2-6 2-5 deserves a lot of RESPECT.

I think the monfils match should be ok for him. Gulbis wont have enough time to launch those hard shots consistently as he does against rafa as Berdych hits a lot flatter and with more pace- I expect to see a lot more UE from Gulbis.

The real danger should be in QF against Ferrer. Ferrer could prove to be too consistent for him but hey you never know. Thats why they play the game. If he is able to overcome ferrer I think he has a great shot against fed/tsonga. If his first serve doesn't desert him I think berdych could be playing in the finals.

Tsonga, Berdych irrespective of their rankings at the time are really top 10 players and very known players. Its amazing that Fed has never really lost to any low ranked less er know players in slams in ages.

Since 2005 he has lost to:

Nadal
Novak
Soderling
Tsonga
Del Potro
Berdych
Murray

did I miss anybody?

oh federer would get blown off the court but not the mental giants that are tsonga, bedych and ferrer. get real you are blinded by hate and are biased. federer reaching the final would be both good for tennis and would make it the most competetive. other than federer i would like a talented youngster but thats unlikely so federer is my only option. and i bet novak fans/novak himself would be more nervous with federer waiting in the final than any other player from this half of the draw. federer would be licking his lips at the prospect of not facing nadal in a french open final. i beleive if federer makes it to the final with as little amount of energy wasted as possible and novak also makes it through it will be one of the greatest finals in many years, as they both would fight to the death and there is no match up issue as well

Only federer can blow himself off the court with all the shanks and errors he makes sometimes these days. Never really seen anybody else blow him off the court really. He does it to himself.
