The Americans (bar Odesnik) are having a field day. Big surprise considering what happened to the four of them in Bordeaux last week.
In a way the USTA has done a smart job. Going from hard to green clay to red clay seems like a slow but natural progression. The losses in Bordeaux just enabled them to put in more practice time. That having been said, I am not surprised with Kudla doing well but Sock and Johnson qualifying is still unexpected.
