If Rafa wants WTF why do not go Valencia. The owners are Ferrer and Ferrero. The court is the same and IMO at Basel it is a bit faster then the court in London.

Just out of interest, what are these mythical issues aside from money that stopped him signing a contract?

Federer playing there will make it sold out in a split second. People don't really care for Nadal, Murray or Del Potro. Brennwald should know that.

Can you present for us the contracts signed for Stella Artois and the reasoning behind them? It's in your own country, after all, should be easy to find out, shouldn't it? No? What about another tournament, then? Any tournament?

I'm not the one saying that money is not the issue.

Burden of proof isn't on me.

Brennwald is really turning into quite the whiny bitch isn't he? He's bad mouthed Fed to the media multiple times in past few months. Very poor form.

As for this appearance fee nonsense, there is a lot more going on. Federer wants to buy Basel at some point and from what I gather Brennwald (who owns the tournament?) is against it/wants to protect his position.

This whole thing has smelled fishy from the start because Federer manages his PR very well. He wouldn't have been stupid enough to get into a public spat with his home tournament over a relatively trivial amount of money. Even the haters must agree since they are constantly going on about Fed's "fake image".

This is the only article I was able to dig up on it after a quick google (interesting link to IMG as well):

Quote:
Another thing I’d like to know more about is; are Basel and IMG linked? I know that Roger Brennwald owns the tournament but apparently when Roger was with IMG they tried to buy the tournament off him. Brennwald rejected it, but is there still a link and could IMG be a part of why Roger isn’t playing Basel? Internal politics huh!

7 figures is a trivial amount of money?

And more where that came from...

Quote:
As far as I’m aware Roger wanted to buy the Basel tournament from Brennwald so that he effectively owned the tournament. I’m not sure if that was when he was with IMG or after they had split. But either way Brennwald refused and said it was not for sale.

I think what then happened was Brennwald leaked details of Roger’s 2013 appearance fees to the media so the Swiss Press portrayed him as greedy. Their negotiations broke down and as of yet he’s not playing Basel next year.

Don't know if it was discussed, but apparently Brennwald made a big show out of making a phone call to Roger in front of journalists, to demonstrate how Roger isn't answering his phone call.

Swiss media didn't like this, and for good reason, is he trying to make things worse, or what? Roger must be LIVID.

The difference between whatever Federer was asking for and what Brennwald offered wasn't 7 figures. But yes, for Federer 7 figures is trivial. A lot of tournaments regularly try to intice him with that sort of money.

It is astonishing that Federer has tried to hold a gun to the head of the organisers in order to demand more money. Clearly his ego is out of control and he has assumed they will bow down to his ridiculous demands because were he need to be playing that would be a disaster for the organisers.

Evidently it has backfired.

Oh yes, burden of proof is most definitely on you, to prove that Federer tried to hold a gun to the head of the organizers to demand more money.

Are you really trying to deny money was an issue in this case?

I realise you might be a Federer fan boy, but come on.

I see you make no attempt whatsoever to back up your ridiculous claim. I didn't expect you to either. Obviously you don't hold yourself to the standards you ask of others.
