I occasionally come into this thread thinking "okay there must be an openly gay player by now so let's see who it is" but there never actually is. Although I suppose there might be someone who's technically openly gay but no one cares enough about their personal life to have noticed.

Re: The gay male player speculatron
There are players who are, effectively, openly gay/bisexual/etc., or at the very least openly associate with gay people, go to gay bars (gay and straight). They just aren't out to the media and the gay issue isn't something that's talked about. Don't ask don't tell is still basically the agenda in the sports world in regards to homosexuality, both players and media.
That really highlights how deep homophobia continues to be in sport. People are still so uncomfortable with the subject they refuse to bring it up. Sad.

Do you really believe that? Do you really think that BLICK wouldn't make up a sensational story if Federer was gay?
Honestly: I think it's the opposite than homophobic: It's not a big deal anymore!
There are players that don't hide and live a gay lifestyle. It would only be a big story if it really was a superstar like Federer
It was a big thing when Navratilova came out but 20 years later Mauresmo got a very positive feedback and everybody loved her in France!
