Default Transparency - Jelena

Make the finding of a decision more transparent, so that we normal users can at least a bit comprehend, why the decision was taken.

Every decision made my a moderator must be explained out in the open, if requested by any poster. It doesn't have to be lengthy, just a suitable explanation as to why a certain decision was made in such a way. Transparency is really important. I must ask, rhetorically, why moderation on this site is so secretive? If a poster gets banned, don't we have a right to know more than just a categorised reason like 'discriminatory remarks' or 'double account'?

Glad everyone is on the same page but please use precise language. These two statements don't actually say anything, since the mods already believe they are "transparent" and have given sufficient explanation in the Corey Feldman thread. At best we'll get a slightly more detailed explanation in the bans thread, followed by a silencing of debate with "you had a chance to propose rules changes" once this is all over.

For example, instead of saying "a suitable explanation" which is open to interpretation, say something concrete. Like: posts that resulted in a ban must be linked to in the ban reason and left up for all users to see for a period of 2 days unless leaving the post would result in extreme disruption or legal consequences for the forum (personal information, serious death threats, advertising spam). Or something like: All bans should be allowed a discussion thread if a poster requests one. If 2/3rds of the posters believe the decision to be unacceptable, than the mod who made the decision should be subjected to popular recall.

This "rules suggestion" idea is obviously strictly limited and controlled, and most likely is more to calm the userbase and defuse anger . Even so, we have to do our bests with the limited power that we have. Please be more careful and more creative MTF userbase, we may do something despite all odds

Thanks again Snowwy. Even by creating this, the forum is already showing more transparency and allowing its users to communicate. I would really like to see more of offensive content removed from posts, yet posts remaining there enriched with comments made by Mods of why the post content was removed. Something like this:

Quote:
Post content removed because the user used discriminatory remarks towards the Y community. Banned under rule X.
After this, the user's reason for banning can be added in the already existing section of the forum, maybe with a link to this post.

I think moderators could explayin their actions more. Others would know what someone did wrong and could avoid breaking the same rules.

Thank you for your suggestion.

We will be creating a thread in suggestions and feedback where questions may be asked. There will be some sort of limit on the type of questions that are asked in the thread versus what needs to be PMed or emailed.
