Yes, the topic says specifically that there is no Nadal in december 2004. Since there is no Slam held in december, it wouldent affect anything.

OK, I see this is spreading...

People should really serve their "reality" cold and fresh in the morning. "What if?" and "If only" referring to past events just don't work in the real world. One should take reality how it is and stop wasting their time trying to figure out a parallel reality starting from a point in the past leading to a different conclusion.

Nadal won 11 GS, Federer 17. This IS reality and nothing can change it ever.

You do realise 'peak' Fed would have to beat peak Nadal for most of his slams instead of Davydenko, Roddick and Baghdatis. Boy would that be painful for Mr. 2-8 in slams.

Tennis would probably be dead because Federer's dominance would have made a mockery of the sport... he would have won something like 11 slams in a row (FO 2005 - US Open 2007)...

His mental makeup would have been completely different had the state of the game been totally different as well, there's no telling how he'd have done and the same applies to every other player of course, we need to keep in mind tennis is played by humans not machines who are unaffected by their surroundings.

Take Roddick for instance - without Federer around he'd never have felt the need to tweak his style and eventually change it completely, if Federer had never existed he'd have been a totally different player, both in terms of game and mentally.

In short, it's preposterous to believe that you can remove a 17-time Slam winner off the equation and assume everything else stays the same. Had Federer disappeared in December 2002, everything in the past decade of tennis would have been different, the game itself would have taken a different course.
Well I guess I get GSM's point better now. Of course it's impossible to apprehend all the changes involved, but I still find it a funny game to try

idiocy because then nadal would have missed 06 instead of 09 and fed would have won the calendar...then he would have missed whole 09 instead of 12...fed wins ao 09 and nadal would be done at age 30.

If not for Nadal, Coria would probably have won the FO in 2005. And from then on it would all have been completely different...

If you're not trolling, then this just show your lack understanding about tennis or even sports in general.

Federer would have made a mockery of the sport before 2008.

What would be interesting to know is who would have won all those slams in 2004-2007 if Federer wasn't around.

Indeed....couldashouldawoulda is the lowest form of sports conversation. It's a big favourite of those who have given up on real life results reflecting their bias, so seek some balm in the imaginary.
