Ah nice. I'm glad he's playing at your local tournament Rosie.

Thats what I hate about Kooyong, it's so close to me, but none of my faves play there

I have Guest Passes there as my friend works in the Bar at the club though I'll only be going up for late afternoons/evenings after work, as I can't really take any more time off work for a while after Paris and Rome. I'm sure Di will be delighted to see her Ernests and my darling Novak will be there Anyway - here is a link to the Players who will be appearing http://www.theboodles.com/content/players.php

Rosie, great to hear that news about Tommy
I was already wondering if he really would play Wimbledon as only grass court event this year, which would have been a little strange without any preparation on grass...

So, I already which you a perfect time there with all your favourites

Q. The Spaniards are doing quite well on grass. I think they've all won so far, and in the past some of them skipped playing Wimbledon. You've played pretty much, I think, every year that you've been able to. Third round is your best result. But what's changing for the Spaniards on grass?

TOMMY ROBREDO: I don't know. I think the guys in the past, if you talk to them, I was talking to the guys and saying maybe we should come a lot more, because it's the thing that maybe now that it passed, now I'm thinking that I was doing a mistake, no, but it was just a comment in the locker room.

But anyway, before it was not that much important about where you get the points because you could get it in every place. So far the Spanish players, obviously we prefer to play on clay because we have a lot more chances than to play on grass. Then after they changed the rules and they give us the obligation to go to all the Grand Slams and all the Masters Series. We have no chance if we don't want a zero, so we have to go and play.

I know obviously the grass doesn't help us, our game, a lot more than clay or hard court. But we prefer to try and play and let's see if we can get a couple of matches so it gives us some points to be at the end of the year in the rankings.

I think the mentality changed because of that thing that they give us the obligation to play.

And then also year by year we are just coming a little bit more and trying a lot more, and it gives us the chances to play a little better. It's never going to be like clay, but it can be good, as well.

Q. If you look at Costas and Bruguera and Corretja, they played Wimbledon maybe four or five times their whole career.

TOMMY ROBREDO: Yeah, but I think that's why, because before they were getting the points after Wimbledon, and before Wimbledon on clay. So for them, Wimbledon, it was not counting 100 percent. That's why maybe they skip Wimbledon, because they were after the long clay season they wanted to have a bit of rest.

Q. Do you feel you've improved on grass in all the years you've played?
TOMMY ROBREDO: I think now also the grass is slower than what it used to be. The balls are bigger and a lot heavier. Also, the grass is not I know the ball bounces a lot more.

But anyway, it's grass, and it's a lot different. But, yeah, I think that the Spanish players, we are just getting used to playing a lot more because we are coming every year. And also, a lot of players, we are trying to prepare and play in a grass tournament before, so I think that every time it's like indoors.

Before we were not playing that good in indoors or hard courts, but now because we have to play always on that surface I think we are improving. I think we are good fighters and we like to improve our game, and that's why we play on all surfaces.

Sania-Sunitha duo to play in Olympics

NEW DELHI: Sania Mirza has been given a doubles entry with Sunitha Rao for the Beijing Olympics, according to the list of direct acceptances announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in London on Wednesday.

Sania would thus be competing in both the singles and doubles, in her maiden Olympic Games.

The ITF also confirmed the entry for Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes who would be fighting together in their fourth Olympics.

Among the other pairs in the men’s doubles, Roger Federer will be playing with Stanislas Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal will be with Tommy Robredo.

Novak Djokovic will be a strong favourite with specialist Nenad Zimonjic, while the defending champions Nicolas Massu and Fernando Gonzalez will be there along with the bronze medallists of Athens, Mario Ancic and Ivan Ljubicic who had denied Leander and Mahesh a medal. — Special Correspondent

Singles & Doubles Entries Announced For Olympics

The ITF announced on Wednesday the direct acceptance list for the 2008 Olympic Tennis Event in singles and doubles. For both men and women, this is the strongest field ever assembled in the Olympics since tennis returned as a full medal sport in Seoul in 1988.

Led by the world No. 1s, Roger Federer of Switzerland and Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, 17 of the top 20 men and 18 of the top 20 women will compete in Beijing.

Fifty-six players are entered based on their South African Airways ATP Ranking as of of 9 June (following Roland Garros), with a limit of four singles players per gender per country. Players must also be in good standing with their National Association and have met the minimum participation requirements for Davis Cup and Fed Cup.

All five of the top men will compete in Beijing. In the Top 20, only Andy Roddick (USA) and Richard Gasquet (FRA) declined to participate and Fernando Verdasco (ESP) is ineligible because he is the fifth qualified player from Spain.

Some men players included in the direct acceptance list have qualified under the ITF’s entry criteria, approved by the International Olympic Committee, but their entry has not yet been confirmed by their respective National Olympic Committees. The ITF continues to object to the exclusion of these players who have worked hard to establish their ranking which is a fair, transparent and equitable means for entry for tennis athletes. The ITF is discussing this situation with the International Olympic Committee, who approved its entry criteria, with the hope that this situation will be resolved in favour of these deserving players.

In addition, included is a list of the first three eligible men who will enter the draw if there is a withdrawal by a player whose country does not have a qualified alternate.

The Olympic Tennis Event will be played from August 10-17 at the new Olympic Tennis Center in Beijing, China. The 2004 Olympic gold medallists were Nicolas Massu (CHI) in singles and and Fernando Gonzalez/Massu (CHI) in doubles. Tennis was a part of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. After the 1924 Paris Games, tennis withdrew from the Olympics but returned as a demonstration event in 1984 Los Angeles and returned as a full medal sport in 1988 Seoul.
