Re: ~<Tommy News>~
D nada a bit late thought
Quote:
Robredo advances at ATP event
NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - Spain’s second-seeded Tommy Robredo advanced with ease to the third round of a 675,000-dollar ATP event yesterday, beating Frenchman Marc Gicquel 6-4, 6-4.
The 25-five-year-old Spaniard contained Gicquel’s ferocious forehands and withstood a late rally to advance.
“I played well enough to win,” Robredo said. “We had pretty good rallies. I knew he likes to play fast. I just let him miss more. I mixed it well, but didn’t have to go for too much.”
The Frenchman tried to rein in Robredo, coming back in the second set to take a 4-2 lead, but the seventh-ranked Spaniard finished off the job by reeling off the last four games.
Robredo has spent his summer on European red clay until playing at Montreal and Cincinnati ahead of this hardcourt event and the US Open, the year’s final Grand Slam tournament that begins next Monday in nearby New York.
“We Europeans love to play on clay,” he said. “I came straight to Montreal. Everything was so fast. Then I played in Cincinnati. I didn’t play well there.
“I didn’t want to be in the States doing nothing. If you go to New York it’s nice. You’re in the city. You feel the atmosphere. But you just practise and practise. It’s not the same as playing matches.
“I felt like playing here would be nice for my preparation.”

Re: ~<Tommy News>~
From atp.com:
SPANISH ARMADA FEATURE IN MARIE CLAIRE
Members of the Spanish Armada appear in September's edition of Marie Claire in a seven-page feature.
Tommy Robredo, David Ferrer, Carlos Moya, Fernando Verdasco and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez reveal their professional ambitions and life outside of the court in the feature entitled ‘Sex Point’.
The young, good-looking members of the sports elite appear in the Spanish edition of the monthly women's magazine.
World No. 8 Robredo, who captured his fifth career singles title in Sopot this year, said: “Thank god I come from a small village in Spain. I don't waste money on extravagant things: designer clothes, houses or cars. Being a professional hasn't changed me and I really hope it won't ever."
Ferrer reveals he is a literature lover and keeps every book he reads. His favorite is Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet and he read it in three days.
The 25-year-old also comments on a harsh truth about professional tennis. "Not being Nadal or Federer, you need to learn how to lose and to not make it to the final every time," he said.
Garcia-Lopez explains: "I didn't have any girlfriends as a teenager. I was living away from my parents in Barcelona and was very introverted. I have been two years with my girlfriend now and even if the wedding is still far away, it'll come."
While Moya, who turns 31 on August 27, insists even after 13 seasons as a professional there is even room for improvement.
“Even if I am 30 I still feel I can do a lot more,” said the former World No. 1. “When you see you are able to play on the world’s best tennis courts week after week, it means you can still compete and there is no reason to stop..."
"I thank God for having been able to get a lot more that I've ever dreamt about. I started traveling when I was 17, and it's difficult to leave your house and be so far away from you loved ones.
“It's happened to me many times to wake up from a nap not knowing where I was and if it was day or night time. I am now aware that I have a few years left in this and that I have to give my best."
And the photos from the article!!!

Does anyone know if you can buy this edition even outside Spain? And do you know on which date it will be available?

Re: ~<Tommy News>~
One of my LJ friends posted the pics in her LJ today, and I've been constantly drooling since.
I'll check the railway station tomorrow, if they have Spanish Marie Claire. I HAVE to lay my greedy paws on that one.
Scratch that. I asked my Spanish friend if she could get it for me. *thud*
