here a translation of this interview, from Babelfish..so dont bash me if something doesnt make sense!
Eurosport interviewer: EI
Paul Henri Mathieu: PHM
EI:After 2 crazy weeks,how r u?
PH: I'm fine,i'm very happy i won 2 tourneys.I waited for this since long time...now it's arrived,and it's great!
EI:You decided to take 2 weeks off...
PH: yes I should have player Basel but i withdrew.i want to train well this week and be ready for Bercy. In this moment I am in Paris because I had not badly requests these the last two days, and I started again to train softly [... ] I did not even have the occasion to re-examine the images of my two victories [ in Moscow and Lyon ].
EI: Bercy,Davis Cup...what r ur ambitions right now?
PH: I will not lay down myself objectives for Bercy. I did not think of winning these two tournaments, therefore I will try to take the tournament like another, even if it is important because it is in Paris and in France. I will try to give my best.
EI:Which are your matches references this year?
PH:the match against Agassi at Roland Garros. I became aware that I could beat no matter whom. It is true that I did not believe enough there when I carried out two sets zero against him. I thought that it was me, that it was possible and that slowed down me a little. But that was useful to me thereafter much because I became aware of my ability.[... ] I beat Costa also after Roland Garros... I had beautiful victories.
EI: To be in the France group, is it crucial to today succeed in when one is a young French player?
PHM -:Crucial, not, I do not think. But it is sure, when one integrates this group one is very happy, one is proud to represent France [... ] It is hard to require of a player to think of the Davis Cup. There is Bercy which arrives, after one rests a little.Davis Cup is in 2 months! One really tries to take the things the ones after the others... Even if one thinks of it a little, it is normal!
EI: Concerning do the surface chosen for the final of Davis Cup, you have an opinion?
PHM - I do not know, I am rather a clay court player. So I agree, but that would have been on fast surface there would have been also "for" and of "against". Kafelnikov and Safin are very strong on fast surface. On perhaps clay that physically it will be worse... Me, I think that it is well! One made a decision, it is necessary to be held to with it... Now, one plays!
EI: Which are your relations with Guy Forget?
PHM - I do not know him for long time, since I just joined the group. He phoned me to congratulate me after Moscow and Lyon. It was very nice from him.
EI:Return on your career... for those which do not know you. Your trajectory is almost ideal: You gained the Orange Bowl, the tournament Small Aces with Tarbes in 1996, Roland Garros juniors in 2000, and then you burst at the great day this year. You were born in Strasbourg, you then passed to Rheims but also by Florida - at Nick Bolletieri -, and you are involved today by Thierry Champion. Can you reconsider these strong moments of your formation?
PHM:In fact, I started from at home when I was 11 years old. That was not easy, but I wanted really to leave. That was more difficult for my parents than for me... Thus I lived three good years in Rheims, and then then I went to Paris during one year to the INSEP (National Institute of the Sport and Physical Education), but I did not like myself it too much... then I tried to find solutions to go another place, and it is there that I took the initiative to leave to Nick Bolletieri.
EI: Which spoke you?
PHM - I am in contract at IMG McCormack, which have the Bolletieri Academy and which proposed to me to carry out a test in training course over there. After two weeks, I liked that and I am gone back there to the re-entry.
EI:How does one make to live between the United States and France and to reconcile two different formations?
PHM - I had a front formation (??), but I wanted to see another thing, everyone is different and me I decided to leave over there where, it is true, mentality is different. I adapted well there.
EI:Some words on Thierry Champion, your current trainer?
PHM - I work with him since I returned from the United States. I went to academy TETC Bob Brett (Paris) to train with Thierry Champion. One involved oneself during one year, to then left him and for six months I did not have any more a appointed trainer. I thus left the Academy Bob Brett to join it. (??)
EI:- Contrary to the majority of the French players who are based on a strong blow, your play is rather homogeneous, and when one remembers your match against Safin, one has envioe to describe you like a "bruiser without pity", because it was rather terrible! Speak to us about your play...
PHM - I am a baseline player, I am based much on my service my right blow and my return while exploiting my physique (1.85 m, 74kg), but my point strong it is the forehand! My weak point is to play at net, volleying.
EI:Can you tell us a word on your temperament?
PHM -As opposed to what I am on the courts, I am somebody of very shy... I am reserved enough, a little less than front, but on the court I express more my joy and my desire for playing... Apart from the courts, I am somebody of rather quiet, what!
EI:many French players live in the United States, and you live in Paris, is this significant to remain in France?
PHM - That makes one year that I have my apartment in Paris, I start to know world and I smell myself well, but I often will move, it is destiny of tennis players
EI: Will notoriety, that be difficult to manage?
PHM - Not, not, that does not disturb me! Notoriety, I think that's a part of the game...
