The same retired Cuban has the luxury of free health services though, which is great if you are a poor retired citizen of Cuba, don't you think? I heard Cuban doctors and dentists are not that bad, but I have never visited Cuba.

I am not protecting communism, I'm not even saying that you don't have a valid point, but Coca Cola?
Using Coke as an example was a lure to entice you to decide for Cubans, rather than say that Cubans should be free to make their own decisions. I have heard that same logic from tourists in Cuba so many times - "it's so refreshing here, no McDonalds, no Pizza Hut, etc." Unfortunately these tourists forget that they are just there for a week on a nice beach, not for a lifetime if deprivation. Then they go home and have a Big Mac - because they can. But here you are at the idea that a Cuban might want a Coke every now and then

It is easy to say from the outside that Cubans don't need cokes, but I can tell you that for the Cubans I know, a Big Mac and a Coke are the impossible dream. Who are we to say that they are better off if they can't choose for themselves to have that simple pleasure?

As for medical services, they are appalling. I certainly do not think they have the luxury of good free medical treatment. Having seen it up close over the course of 10 years I can speak with confidence on that. For, example, did you know that there are no pharmacies in Cuba. When a Cuban sees a doctor, the doctor may tell him what medicine he needs, knowing that only those with access to dollars and the black market may be able to track them down on the street. But he does not write a prescription. There is nowhere to take it.
The conditions in the hospitals are distressing because everything is stolen by the nurses. Provide your own bed linens and hope that your family brings you food every day. Ignore the urine smells. Is that a luxury?

I do not sympathize with his ideas, but this is a cruel illness which leads through pure hell to absolute destruction of the body.
May his Soul rest in peace,he's lucky to be free from the pain for sure.

I deliberately used something so common and available to all of us in the free world as an example of what is just junk food in the big bad west is something the average Cuban can never have. It is not wondrous to us, but it is to most Cubans.

When you didn't offer an alternative in the choice above, then the possibility of a Big Mac and a Coke as an alternative to yet another plate of rice and a few beans washed down with a glass of tap water, is indeed a choice that most Cubans would consider wondrous.

Capitalism offers the choice of a Big Mac or a filet mignon. Socialism offers the choice of rice and beans or rice and beans.

Hopefully there are going to be able to reopen those media newspapers and TV channels that were closed under Chavez dinasty, there's going to be a fair Justice again and the Congress will be allowed to have different parties on it. In one word hopefully there's going to be a real Republic and a real Democracy. A real respect to Human Rights Watch.

It's very easy to support these tiranies speaking from a cozy sofa of a first world country. And if you really want to live in "that real democracy" like the ones you support as the Chavez one, why dont you move there to have a better life?

The fact to not support these tyranies doesn't mean that we support the presence of US in the region either as we suffered those consecuences in the past. I dont support these kind of goverments but I dont want the US in the region either.

PS> I hope this post is not erased as it was with my previous post and my opinion against Chavez and these satellite goverments in Latin America

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

It's quite simple. The US used to get rid of any Latin American government they didn't like. Chavez marked the end of those times. He was a marked man for that reason alone. If you want a real dictatorship try Pinochet, the man the West jumped in bed with. Reagan and Thatcher's best friend who stood and watch while he killed millions of his own.

How dare that despot Chavez spend money on his own people. And why would I not move to Venezuela? Because I live here. I would much rather go to a Chavez-led Venezuela to work or study than go to Kazakhstan or Saudi Arabia. REAL dictatorships with the West's backing.

OK.

That's why Jimmy Carter and several neutral observers declared the elections free and fair then

Venezuela's media was very critical of Chavez. He does not manipulate and control TV/media like the tedious right-wing republican parrots would have you believe.

Good grief I would give up pop and Big Macs for free healthcare any day. It's fortunate that I can have both, but I would if it came down to it. geez, get some perspective.

And while we're on the subject of freedom and junk food, why can't I bring my own food to the movie theatre, or to a Leafs game? Where's my freedom to not pay $10 for a hot dog at the Air Canada Centre?

Oh now you will say "that's not the government making those rules."
But to me, one big brother is the same as another.

Funny I say it, I was wondering for years why can't I bring my own food to the movies and a few months ago they pass a law in here that u can bring whatever u want to the movies, any food whatever however.
I hope it will be all over the world bc it's crazy to pay so much for Cc and a candy
