from the Montreal Globe and Mail;

PASSING SHOT
TOM TEBBUTT

"There are a lot of new loves in tennis," Flavia Pennetta of Italy said yesterday at the Rogers Cup in Montreal when asked about players on the men's and women's tour dating. Pennetta has been going out with Carlos Moya of Spain, while other women in Montreal -- Martina Hingis (Radek Stepanek), Lucie Safarova (Tomas Berdych) and Corina Morariu (Justin Gimelstob) -- have boyfriends on the men's tour. "For me, it's better to go out with Carlos," said 18th-ranked Pennetta, a winner yesterday over Galina Voskoboeva of Russia, "because when we're apart for six or seven weeks, we understand why, but someone who's not a player would not."

"I practise a lot with Carlos," said Pennetta, 24, adding with a smile, "we do backhand to backhand [her strong stroke]."

Moya, voted one of People magazine's 50 most beautiful people In the world in 1999, will turn 30 in two weeks. Asked whether he was getting a little too old, Pennetta laughed and said, "No, he's a baby."
