Hi guys sorry I haven't been over here for a while, - but I'm currently away visiting relatives in Belarussia (and - yes - it IS cold!) - so Internet connection isn't very easy. Anyway - I just grabbed half an hour online - and thought you would like to know that Nico has committed to play in next year's Heineken Open tournament in Auckland, New Zealand that starts on January 9th. The full player list will be known in a couple of weeks (28th November) I will be home at the weekend so will have more time to follow things here then. Bye for now

I'm sorry I don't know too many detials, - but Nico is playing in an exhibition at the end of December. It is in Punta del Este, Uruguay on 29th-30th December, and Nalbandian, Zabaleta and Meligeni are also playing.

Better choice of practice partners I guess (most of the top Argentine players practice there) - plus I presume it would be easier for Gaby Markus, who will want to spend time with his family over Christmas - he has at least one young child.

After the bad 2005 this is the most logical decision ... Nico will work with an argentinian trainer

Default Re: Nico News and Articles

Was working on my paper so didn't post this at teh time. Here's the article on Nico's new fitness coach. I'm very happy...sounds like he has great experience!

From latercera.cl:

Tomorrow Nicolas Massú will initiate the pre-season in Buenos Aires. And at the front of his work will be a new name. Does not it be a matter of a change of coach, therefore this work will continue in the hands of Gabriel Markus, with whom collaborates for the second time from September of 2005, but in the physical preparation. Al front of this last aspect, of vital importance for the viñamarino and that so many headaches brought him during the last 11 months, will be the Argentine Horacio Anselmi, who at the age of 46 counts on dilated path in its country. The Argentine exercises since 23 years ago in the different branches of Boca Juniors (soccer, basketball, lifting of weights, among others) as also he has been next to Franco Davín, Gabriela Sabatini, Gastón Gaudio and Guillermo Coria. "For me is a honor to work with the Olympic champion", part saying the PF, today in the function of direction of the department of physical education of the club "xeneize".

How has he planned the work with Massú during the four weeks that the pre-season in Buenos Aires will last?

The first thing is that Wednesday Nicolas will be submitted to various exams in the club to know where we are stopped. But in general will be quadruple days, with tennis and physical work in the morning and in the afternoon. Nicolas comes from a difficult year and therefore the effort that will carry out during this time will be fundamental so that have a good year.

Massú is a player that bases his play in the physical aspect, in which he walked with many problems this year.

That I have him very clear. But also I know about his capacity of work, of the desires that puts in the training and my mission will be to do the major effort so that physically the 2006 be the best of all his career. I have clearly what is important that this aspect for Nicolas and that needs to be very fast to yield. On this point I had to Coria and Gaudio (today the two top ten), both the fastest tennis players of Argentina, for which I have clear the work to carry out. I know about what is important that is Nicolas like the sportsman in Chile and therefore the responsibility is greater.

Already he has revised with Markus some aspects for the planning of the tournaments during the next year?

He is something that have to converse well with Gabriel and with who they see their career in Chile and abroad. But I have clear that one must plan very well the year to avoid a large wear, the one that all the live today almost tennis players. But also one must go seeing step by step its evolution and how goes feeling. For that, the opinion of Nicolas is very important and also that respect our decisions.

Default Re: Nico News and Articles

Another older one...poor Nico...lots of pressure on our Angelito...

From latercera.cl:

Today Nicolas Massú faces in a different way the work for a new season. As opposed to what occurred him during the two last years (2003 and 2004), do not live together with the pressure to defend points, to renew titles neither to be maintained among the better. The situation is different for him, therefore for the first time in the last three years "lives on out of the group of the 50 better than the world due to a harmful year, plagued of physical problems. Today the setting is another, but according to the viñamarino harder of the one that should bear when was among the better.

"Now I feel more pressure than before, when should defend points. When it is itself up, one is maintained in a ranking and, though can fall, slope less to be recovered. Now I come since behind. It will be hard, because I have to play tournaments without being seeded, evil pictures they can touch me, with rival more complicated. Before, for example, remained free in the first round in various tournaments, now not. Will be a lot more complicated the phase that start.

That is to say the pressure situates in showing that was not nine of the world or Olympic champion by coincidence..

They are few the players that are 60º and that in little time they are again 20º. (Juan Carlos) Ferrero, (Marat) Safin have done it.. But to be down and to be again top 20 one must win two or three important tournaments or to go from to little.

It believes that the people thinks that to be up seems easier what is?

Of outside it is seen easy. Here they think that any can arrive and itself does not value really. Costs a world. One it sees the top 20 and one comes upon large players.

It thinks that itself has not valued what did?

When you are 10, 11, 9, the people wants to see you always there. And they believe that if you are nine is simple to give the leap al five and from there al one. But is not thus. In any case I do not believe that they have been unjust with me. But also, when to one it goes him badly, they want to see you immediately well, what is not so simple, because is a process to recover the confidence, to win parties, to add hours in the court. It is not to arrive and to win a tournament and to think that I am ready again. It will cost me me to to recover the level of 2004 when I won, won and won. I begin a very difficult phase.

Today it is 26 years old, ¿believes that the 2006 will be crucial in its career to take up again the level?

I am in the half of my career. I am living the natural process to go maturing on the road and therefore I feel more capable, because I have lived also good and difficult moments.

That is to say, is more prepared to surpass frustrations, as passed to end of this year, when lost in the first round of six tournaments in a consecutive way..

I think so. Before, when the things left me badly, put me more tense than now. I know it to handle better. Went me crazy. Now I am more tranquil.

The complicated thing will be to yield during the first tournaments to be able to enter direct to the Masters Series in Europe, where is al edge to remain was..

I have all the year to add. I do not defend anything. I did not play the Tour of South America and I have many "zeros" in tournaments that did not I play. One must see him the good side to this and already winning a match I am going to add and to begin to rise.

You put for the 2006?

That me stave nothing, not to have injuries. Of it another, to bend down the head and to listen what tells me my coach, my psychologist, my physical coach. I believe that all my group will be vital to recover me.
