Interview with Nico's dad.

From latercera.cl:

The unique thing that wants at this time Nicolas Massú is that finish of a good time this 2005 harmful. They remain so alone two tournaments (Basel and Paris-Bercy). A year plagued by injuries and where the bad news have abounded besides the good. But already does not it remain anything and is therefore same that the national player already plans the next season, in which expects to recover the land lost.

Sponsors

Telefonica it carries various years as the main one sponsor main of the viñamarino. And in December expires the contract, for which they will have to begin the negotiations among the parts to see what happens. The fall in the classification (is almost a fact that will finish the year out of the 50 better) would be able to damage it, nevertheless Manuel Massú, father and representative, thinks that this will not affect.

"They know what weighs Nicolas and all the physical problems that has had this year. The ranking of Nicolas is a liar and all we are sure that the next year will change the situation, because will not have anything that to defend", explained. Unofficially the contract between Massú and the business of telecommunications is for US$ 100 thousand annual.

With the remainder of his sponsors, the theme does not worry. "With Adidas and Babolat there is contract in force and with Stores Paris extends to the 2006, although there is an option to give it for finished in order to year. But it is something conversable", added Massú father.

In another aspect, the advisors of the Olympic champion already plan the 2006. Already it is a fact that after playing in Paris-Bercy (finalizes November 6), the player will have three weeks of holidays. The first week of December will initiate the pre-season in Buenos Aires, next to his coach Gabriel Markus.

"He is not considered to play exhibitions and all will be centered in arriving well al start of the year that will be in Auckland and later in the Australian Open". And on the other hand will be avoided to make mistakes that yes were assumed for this year.

"Special emphasis in the making of the calendar was put, because for example now should not go to Palermo and should leave immediately in indoor. They are things that itself they cannot be repeated", added Manuel Massú.

Besides, the Chilean will work the aspect psychologist, with a specialist in the capital of Argentina. "Nicolas has been submitted to a lot of pressure and that comes him affecting in its play. Him it is seen pressured, because in the technical part and physics is well. If in the training does not show problems, but yes when does it for the points", added the representative of the viñamarino.

Interview with Hans in latercera.cl:

From latercera.cl:

No matter how more its performance in the last tournaments frighten to various, I am not worried about what Nicolas Massu is living. And the reason is simple: before has been in similar situations and always managed to do well with success. It suffices to recall what suffered in the 2003 and how al following year was transformed into idol al to obtain the medals in Athens and to complete its better season as the professional.

When a player crosses low moments he should appeal to his effort and courage and the Nico he has him to spare. I know that next to Gabriel Markus, his coach, he will worry to do a good pre-season. One must leave behind the last period and to be concentrate on what comes. Clearly, I hope that in the two tournaments that reduces him to play obtain triumphs, only to take up again something of the confidence loss. Although in reality this faith in itself only recovers coaching and with many hours of tennis.

As the captain of Cup Davis touched me to realize that to Massú is an example at the moment of to coach. In fact, before playing against Pakistan, asked me to be remained more time in the practices, to perfect its blows. That it is the attitude that expect of him now, since if did not yield this year was only by the injury that suffered at the principle of the season.

Keys will be the first tournaments that confront in 2006. Auckland, the Australian Open and Vina del Mar, they can mark the return of the true one Nicolas. I have conversed personally with him and Fernando González and both tell myself that they will arrive in the best form to the Davis Cup match against Slovakia, by the first round of the World Group. It is seen that they are anxious, with desires to face to the possible champions of 2005.

Before closing this column, wanted to stop me in another theme: the Cup Petrobras that this week is played. I think that will be the great opportunity so that Chile see in action to the other members of the team of Cup Davis. I expect that Paul Capdeville and Adrián Garcia they show their advances and plunge points. Would be ideal.

What Nico's dad said about Nico doing well in practice and can't do it on the court - so true. When I watched Nico in practices during the summer, he would be doing so well...and then he would get on to the courts, adn look so tentative and lack confidence. Especially for the match against Tim - I thought from practice that he was going to kick Tim's butt the entire match - but got out there, and one break, and he looked like the world had ended. Didn't stop trying, but just looked devastated.

Hopefully the sports psychologist will help.

Why does the Chilean press pick on my poor Nico...

Now they are complaining that because he had a bad year, the guys won't classify for World Cup in Dusseldorf. Of course they fail to say its because of 3 injuries that he had a bad year.

And they even put it in the article for his match tomorrow. From latercera.cl: "The viñamarino will try to cut a negative gust of wind of four consecutive losses in the first round, that have it far from the first places of the ranking ATP and with the Chilean team with scarce chances to classify to Düsseldorf. "

No compassion.

Just like in Cincy when Nico was so upset that they were more worried about his ranking than about how he was healing physically.

No wonder he gets upset with it all.

We love you though Nico...

Interview with Nico's dad in lun.com after loss to Max:

The defeat given by the Belorussian Max Mirnyi closed the discreet season of the viñamarino, who added its sixth consecutive defeat in the first round of a tournament.

Nicolas Massú could not have yesterday a worse closing of season: the viñamarino wanted to be compensated in Paris of five consecutive defeats in the first round, but the power of Max Mirnyi was too much for his pretensions, being said good-bye thus of the last one Masters Series of the season, delivering the suit by a double one 6/2.

With this reverse, the medalist of gold in Athens 2004 closed this season with a registration of 18 victories against 22 falls, of which eleven were in the initial phase of a tournament. With it he equalized his worse gust of wind of negative starts, which dates from the 2001 when also fell consecutively six times of a total of 14 premieres without victories. Besides, and al the same as that year, did not win a title.

"The Nico should rest and to give return the leaf. The injuries complicated him during great part of the year and that impeded him to carry out an adequate pre-season. That be alarming, but I would be worried if its badly performance was for lack of tennis and that, fortunately, has not been thus", analyzed Manuel Massú, father of the sportsman.

"Besides Nicolas carried out a great effort in the 2004: won a pair of titles and succeeded in the Olympics, in singles and in double. That effort passed the account and they came the fracture by stress in the foot, a slipped disc and an injury to the groin. Also I believe that we hurried in the recovery of some of them, removing him continuity to his play", added Mr. Manuel.

It is the opinion that the mother of the tennis player, Sonia Fried, reaffirmed last night in the television program "The last temptation" of Chilevisión. "I believe that Nicolas initiated very quick the season, without taking into account the theme of the wounds. He thought that he could be well, but he made a very large mistake, because later he had one injury after another, that him signficaron to be six months stopped".

In the Parisian court, the Belorussian was a superior al national, who with the rout of yesterday he will finish the 2005 beyond the set of pigeonholes 65 of the ATP. "Sure that was a very hard match, because besides the pressure that himself autoimpone the Nico, Mirnyi he is strong in fast surfaces as this", Massu's dad said.

-¿Nicolas should be concentrated now in the next season?

-Yes. The best is that come immediately and take some good holidays. It needs to rest before being begin to plan what will be the 2006. The good thing is that my son has a lot of claw to do well after these falls and I am sure that the next year will be his, therefore physically is found better and will not have to defend so many points.

Nico is home!!! And wow, he is serious about 2006. Is only take 2 1/2 weeks for vacation. Will start training again on 11/21 and go to Buenas Aires on 11/28.

From latercera.cl:

A balance of what was its action in the season that recently finalized, carried out this late one the national tennis player Nicolas Massú, who explained that the complications tenísticas arose for the constant injuries that suffered from end of 2004.

"The year was difficult. All began the 2004 when I had a problem with a hernia for which I had to have operated on. I was five months stopped without doing nothing and then it cost myself a lot to return", indicated the racquet number two of Chile.

Of the same form, Massú reiterated that each championship that had to confront, was full of difficulties, what him did not they permit to arrive from good form al final of the season.

"Always I was playing with problems, lacked me to win more matches and thus the end of year arrived and in this type of surfaces (hard) rhythm is needed more and I was not with confidence. I had a full year of difficulties and I did the best than I was able and passed what had to happen", assured the "Vampire".

On the processing of his injuries, Massú indicated that "I made no mistake, I did everything that was al reach of my hand", assuring that to half of season had his better action (Amestfoort, Kitzbuhel, US Open and Gstaad).

The viñamarino will initiate its pre-season November 21 and the 28 will begin to coach splits it tenística, the surest thing in Buenos Aires, for later begin the season in the tournaments of Auckland and in the Australian Open.

In the meantime, in which concerns al clash by Davis Cup before Slovakia, Massú indicated that one must seek a court that favor the pretenciones national, but does not have a preference marked.

"If it is in Vina del Mar would be happy because I am of there, but if is in La Serena or Rancagua would also be good to carry the tennis to those cities for the first time", finalized.
