Nico after the match against Ventura:

"I am happy because I played well. I am recovering from some physical inconveniences, only with the mental part and I have played solid, I haven't lost any sets up to now. Happy, also because the things are leaving like they correspond," Massu expressed

With relation to [his opponent], to whom faced for the first time, Massú knew that it would not be an easy task: "He is a difficult player to play, because he doesn't give a lot of rhythm. You audit (??) a little and he plays a drop shot. He played almost the entire match that way. I had to run a lot. I would be able to have win earlier I was 5/3, 40/15, later I was 15/40, but he recovered. Fortunately in the second I managed to close before arriving at a new tiebreak", he added.

From cooperativa:

A new ascent in the ranking of the ATP had this Monday the national tennis player Nicolas Massú, who is now ranked number 82. This situation has very motivated to the viñamarino, who desires to finish in the better way the year and to begin the next season in the best possible way.

"I am happy. Perhaps three months ago behind was 138, now I am 80. Now I am beating again the players that before I didn't lose to and I didn't lose a set in the last tournament. I am passing the difficult moment and only hope to add. The good thing is that the next year will play the large tournaments and I expect to continue rising, since I want to be further up than the position 80", indicated.

"I got myself a virus on Saturday in the night, I got up at five in the morning, the ambulance to the hotel arrived and I could not play. It was bad luck, I was playing well, but all the same, I am happy. I am already 80 and of the 10 matches that I played, I won nine and the one that I lost, the virus won it", indicated.

"Today already I feel a little better and already I want to begin to coach, since I lost playing this week in Buenos Aires. If I am well, I am going to play the tournament of Cali. They told me that in three days already I would be well", stated.

an interview/article from el espectador.com it's a colombian site of course

Translation:

The last time that he stepped into Colombian, Nicolas Massú was barely a young promising Chilean tennis player. "I was 19 years old and we traveled to Bogota to play the Cup Davis with Marcelo Rios. I remember that I beat Mauricio Hadad, just then the number one of Colombia. The series finished 5 to 0. That was in 1999 and since then I never returned. Even this year had many desires to participate in the Cup Petrobrás, but was exhausted physically".

It passed almost a decade, in which Massú was installed in the elite of the tennis, winning six tournaments of the circuit ATP, two medals of gold in the Olympic Games of Athens 2004 (simple and double) and that same year came be the ninth better player of the world.

"Never I will forget that season, since it marked me as a human being, like the sportsman, as all. The Olympic podium will remain engraving in my career and in the memory of my country".

Today, 29 years old, Nicolas Massú crosses a well different reality. After suffering a pronounced tennis fall decided to participate in the circuit Challenger with the objective space of recovering points and, above all, lost self-esteem. After good results in Florianópolis and Montevideo, the Chilean tennis player accepted the proposal of El Espectador to analyze his imminent participation in the Cali Tournament Challenger that begins the next week.

With what expectations do you travel to Colombia?

I am anxious by returning to a country that always myself tried incredible way. Is going to be a hard tournament, but I have high expectations. I like to play in Cali because it is to 800 meters of height, conditions seem to be like the ones that exist in Santiago of Chile where I usually coach. Without doubt I aspire to win the tournament.

The difference between Santiago of Chile and Cali is the heat...

Yes, that is true, but I do not believe that will affect me. As the professional I am usual to play in all sides, so I expect to arrive with a pair during the day of anticipation to adapt me to the temperature of Cali and to yield possible the maximum thing.

Which will they be the rival most dangerous of the tournament?

There are various players with good level, Peruvian Luis Horna; Pablo Cuevas, of Uruguay, and also the Colombian Santiago Giraldo, to whom I know well enough, because I coached with Ricardo Sánchez, who was a coach of Colsánitas for five years.

What can expect the Colombian public of Nicolas Massú?

I feel improving day by day, I am with desires. I believe that in this South American tour I am playing a lot better than at the beginning of year. I had a slope very pronounced and I dropped to 148 in the world, I was me very behind. Today, seven months later, I feel that my tennis is returning. I expect to be able to show it next week in Cali.

After playing in the better tournaments of the world, ¿is difficult for you to return to the circuit Challenger?

The truth is that I am not unusual, not only by the theme of the tournament, but by the theme of the money, the points that are distributed and the fact that all the players want to bet me for my path. Perhaps be a backward movement because the Challenger I utilized them to the beginning of my career to elevate positions and to win experience. But is neither so terrible, if that is not a necessary process. Also it would be able to be going to play the classifications of the large tournaments, but I decided to play the Challenger because what I need is to win matches.

What importance has the confidence in this sport?

It is fundamental and now I can tell that the confidence returned to my body, that is what sought. Now I feel capable to win important tournaments and to face me of equal to equal with any player, something that me did not occur six months ago when lost with rival lower to me.

Which are your goals for the next season?

I have the objective to be again among the 25 first of the world. The results of the last weeks cause they feel me surer and winning, therefore to win the tournament of Cali will be a step more inside my tennis recovery.

In his long career as the professional you has been faced to Roger Federer and to Rafael Nadal, ¿how does he visualize the fight by the first position?

For me Federer is the largest player of every time, is the most complete player and he corroborated him in the Open past U.S. The people worried about the routs that suffered this season, but is part of the life of a human being. After six years in the maximum level is natural to have six months a little bit lower not even bad one, because did not lose never before the semifinals in large tournaments. Rafael is a crack, but I believe that Roger will be again the number one very soon.

Seems like a lot of the same things he said to the other Colombian newspaper.

From El Tiempo in Colombia:

Espanol: http://www.eltiempo.com/deportes/ten...mbia_4621810-1

Translation:

The Chilean, number 82 of the ATP, speaks of his return to the country after 10 years of successful career. From Monday will participate in the Bancolombia Cali challenger tournament.

They confirm international tennis players for the Challenger Seguros Bolivar in Medellín. A decade passed so that Nicolas Massú, one of the last large referring of the Latin-American tennis returned to Colombia. "What impeded me to come was my ranking (was nine of the world), was done me very difficult to return. Now, after 10 years return to play the challengers of Latin America and of Colombia, to win, always I try to do it, always I play to lose not, although at times not the things leave like one plans it", explained to El Tiempo.

The Chilean, considered the best tennis player in the history of the Olympic Games -has been the unique one in winning two medal of gold- obtained them in the just of Athens 2004 (individual and double, where did couple with Fernando González) and likewise reached two titles of the World Cup by Teams in Dusseldorf (Germany) in the 2003 and 2004, will begin next Monday its participation in the Bancolombia challenger of Cali.

"Thanks to God I have had a career exitosísima in which I have played ten final ATP, I have earned two medals of Olympic gold and two World Cup finals. I have done many things in the tennis and I am very pleased", assured from Santiago, where was prepared to play in Cali.

Massú, who does part of the golden history of the tennis of its country -next to Marcelo Rios, former number one of the world, and Fernando González, current 10 of the ATP- is today in the position 82 of the world ladder and with the idea to return in the next season to be located inside it 25 better than the circuit.

"I do it because after so many years I am playing near house, when could be in the Masters Series of Madrid and Paris. Also because I want to recover positions, my tennis, and this tour that have done in Latin America helps me for my next objective that is to return to the 25 better the next year", indicated.

Born in Vina del Mar, Nicolas puts forward that its sports descent, that had he does it until four months ago in the position 138 of the classification, was pure exhaustion.

"After being for near ten years inside the 80 better than the circuit, for me is normal that have had a fall. Now I am recovering", affirmed.

How sweet of both Nico and Fernando. Both always support el Teleton, and they are going to do it again this year. Kudos to both of them!

And it will be a treat for us because there is always lots of pixs and videos.

From latercera.cl:

Fernando González and Nicolas Massú will play in el Paseo Ahumada is a matter of an exhibition that will be carried out at 10 o'clock in support to the Teletón, where they will face the Paralympic specialists Róbinson Méndez and Francisco Cayulef.

The Olympic medalists Fernando González and Nicolas Massú, face of ADO Chile, next to the specialists paralympian number one and two of the country, Róbinson Méndez and Francisco Cayulef, they will offer tomorrow, at 10 o'clock, an exhibition in the street, like part of the activities with which the Banco de Chile will deliver their support to the Teletón. The tennis challenge will develop in the el Paseo Ahumada con Huerfanos.

Massú assured that "I am very pleased to be able to be in this activity. The truth is that I had many desires to be in Chile supporting to the Teletón, but depended on my tournaments. Fortunately I will be able to be in Santiago. Always, each time that have been able, I have been supporting this noble cause and I did not want the lose possibility. What is important is that all we help so that the children reach their goal and they can continue progressing. I support the ADO, as tennis player and as a human being, I am happy to be able to support the children''.

Hopefully there will be some pixs soon.

From terra.cl:

Feña and Massú gave exhibition in el paseo Ahumada accompanied by Don Francisco more than thousand people continued the main tennis players of the country, who disputed an encounter with two disabled sportsmen call the "Double of the Equality". In the meantime, the Olympic believe that Argentina will win the end of the Cup Davis.

A curious match saw more than thousand people in full heart of Santiago. It occurs that Fernando González and Nicolas Massú played an exhibition in the corner of el paseo Ahumada con Huérfanos.
All was framed in the presentation that did the Banco de Chile of the Teletón, event where both sportsmen have been continuous collaborators.

In comparison was called the "Double of the Equality" and in it they saw action the Bombardero next to Robinson Méndez and the viñamarino with Francisco Cayulef. For the anecdote will remain that in little more than 45 minutes won the first double one for 6-3.

In the event presentation was done by Don Francisco, although is time did not participate actively of the comparison.

The order was maintained always and only something was seen of chaos when the organizers gave balls to the supporters.

"I feel a lot of pride by el Teletón and is a honor to be here", said Massú, while González affirmed that "this work is the great party of all the Chileans".

Only a comment of contingent tennis did the national players. Both they coincided that "Argentina will win the Cup Davis" in the end to Spain and their reasons passed since they are a "good team" until "we consider many friends there".

Nico left last night for New Zealand....should be there by now.

From Cooperativa.cl:

It would be good to win the four matches of the qualy, but if I lose also one must see the positive side that is that I am going to be 8 ó 9 days coaching with the better players of the world. Accommodating me to the surface and being accustomed to the schedules".

With respect to the competence by teams, Massú maintained that will not play tournaments on carpet before the Cup Davis that will be disputed during the month of March in Croatia.
