You know, I actually like this guy. Yes he is a bit of a douche but at least he is honest. Few guys on tour are like that. It's refreshing.

Refreshing indeed The interviewer yesterday at the Gulbis - Blake match was quite taken aback by his honesty. In the pre-match interview he asked Gulbis whether he liked the venue, seeing as he won his first title here and all, and Gulbis said "Honestly... Not so much. It's quite windy here." The interviewer turns out was one of the match commentators and he mentioned it again during the match, he must not have interviewed Ernests before

Honesty can be unpleasant at times, but it's not about degrading someone else's hard work, passion and achievement. This is not coming from a place of honesty; it comes from a place of entitlement, and pissy-bitch envy. The people who are in the top 100 are there because they earned their spot, pure and simple. He thinks he ought to be there because he has talent and flair and can (when he feels like it) look like someone who belongs -- but doesn't always want to put in the hard yards.

He didn't name anyone. If someone in the top 100 thought 'Gulbis probably meant me', then Gulbis would be right about that particular person.

Also, obviously Gulbis is an overtly-entitled douche, which is why I like listening to him.

I would like to see how MTFers would react if after a tough match they played giving all of their best, someone came and told them : "anyway you can't play tennis"

Andreď Medvedev was very funny in interviews, Gulbis is not.

not even that : if it was envy, he would have said “I was really getting pissed not to be in the top 100,'', which would mean "I would like to be in their place".

No he needed to say for some reason : “I was really getting pissed to see who's in the top 100,''"There are some guys who I don't know who they are. Some guys, I'm sorry, with respect—they can't play tennis."

This is pure disdain, plain and simple, not even imagination, humour or anything, pure disdain.

Just like when Lenders speaks about the world number 4 (I name him because he deserves it : David Ferrer).

PS : here he doesn't call names, but he already said about an opponent "I don't even know who he is".

Let us hope he retires sooner than later.
5 more years of Dulpiss would be too much to bare.

Albeit, he is playing some nice tennis in the early part of the year.

I agree. Even though I want him to do well, I don't like it when he speaks like that. Him saying he doesn't know who these players are I can accept, but him saying they can't play tennis? That's not good, he should show them more respect. Obviously everyone who is in the top 100 can play tennis.

It's really too bad he didn't go all the way and give a name so he could get his just PUBLIC deserts when he loses to him again as he inevitably will.

Those of you praising his "honesty" can't possibly believe Gulbis "honestly" doesn't know the names of the top 100. Even 12 year olds on forums know who they are, much less an ATP player.

He's a punk who doesn't even go all the way with his trash talking lest he get b-tch slapped on and off the court.

thanks a lot for understanding : I don't think he's bad, and he can probably have humour sometimes, but here I don't find it funny, it's just a bad comment at the others and that's all, and it's not a thing to say really.

And also most importantly it's not good for him :

1. I really think he should learn all dimensions of tennis, he's very talented but there's a lot he still doesn't know about it, it's obvious when one sees him playing and when one sees the others playing. If he deliberately chooses to ignore those other dimensions of tennis, it will hamper his improvement. Learn to build points more for instance, play with the head ... he seems to miss that in many matches, not even speaking of hard work.

2. it's probably not good for his relationships with other players as well
