Default I feel like Nadal's comeback could be similar in pace to Del Potro's

I have this gut feeling that Nadal is gonna take quite a while to return to his usual form.

Being out for 8 months is nothing to shrug off.
Del Potro had a similar injury break and took over a year to really return to full form.

I don't think we will see anything close to peak Nadal until 2014 unfortunately.

What do you guys think?

Will he quickly regain his good form?
Will he take a year to get back to the top?
Is there anything that needs to happen to speed up the comeback?

This has only occurred to me because I am sadly watching the live feed as Mr. Warlocq is having no mercy...

No. Two key differences: Del Potro had surgery, Nadal didn't. Del Potro was 20yo and a developing player (and had that development halted), Nadal left the tour in the middle of his prime years. Also Del Potro went from #4 to below the top 400, Nadal is still top 8 which guarantees him good draws.

If Nadal gets back to his best (no guarantee he will), I'd expect it to happen faster than Del Potro for sure.

Nadal is post-peak and this fact changes things dramatically.

If Nadal isn't top 4 in a year, he's done.
He's not young enough

What is his full form anyway, are you trying to say he would play for years straight, on the same level as when he won his slam? I don't think so.

Agreed. He's not 20 anymore and increasingly strong chance his best years are now behind him. I expect he will still have some success ( I hope anyway), but more and more it seems he'll be lucky to win a few clay court titles a year. He's also showing a pretty poor attitude in his return of complain complain complain about surface, balls, the ATP etc. That is not a good sign. They all deal with the same conditions. Great player who i'm afraid strong chance his best days are behind him. It happens to them all and it was always predicted that would happen relatively young with Nadal given his style and well known body problems he's had since the start.

It wasn't just the slam. In 2009 he won 5 straight matches against Federer/Nadal. He was on the way up.

It always makes it tougher to get back to your best form though. A knee surgery would arguably be even more devastating for a tennis player than a wrist surgery.

It happened when he was 20yo. Most players get better after 20yo; in fact it's safe to say all the current top players were better at 24/25 than they were at 20, none of them had their development halted by injury/surgery either.
