Alund has a good serve and forehand
Neither is that shocking to me. Monaco was briefly very good last year and was better than the people below him, despite his lack of talent compared to those around him. Monaco has a really nice forehand, and his backhand briefly at least didn't miss

Post Re: Greater achievement: Monaco in TOP 10 vs Alund in TOP 100

I watched Alund several time playing on challenger tour, he is one of the players who, when in good form, has the game to be in Top 100. So far he alternated good tournaments with surprising losses and finally this tournament will be his breakthrough in mens tennis elite.

I like his game and hopefully he will become a regular player in top 100.

Monaco was a consistent top 30 player before he entered the top 10. You don;t finish in the top 30 for 4 straight years by pure luck.

Alund, on the other hand, I never expected to get this far. He seems to have made it purely by virtue of his willpower and stamina. I agree with Nathii's comment that some top-level Challenger players inevitably make it into the Top 100 (and are unable to become a permanent fixture on the ATP Tour), but I never thought Alund would be at the same level as those she mentioned (Prodon, Dutra Silva, Ungur). I tip my hat to him though.
Every top 10 player deserved to get there don't get me wrong, but he's the most limited player ever to make it, and Troicki was a win away. Strong evidence that below Del Potro/Tsonga/Berdych axis, the field is pretty meh overall.

this!

Monaco moves well, has the nice forehand, can throw in some variety, fights, etc. sure, he's really mostly only good on clay buttttt I think everyone here has seen plenty of great Monaco matches over the years, some reason they are hating him now because he's become good buddies with Nadal and likes to go fishing, who doesn't like fishing

he has indeed beaten Nadal before (in 2007 when Juan was playing pretty well), challenged Djokovic last year in Rome, and is tied 2-2 with Murray. he also leads in the H2H 4-3 against Ferrer

there are just a lot of haters on MTF, Monaco was unfortunate to practically miss a few seasons based on physical problems, but he does have weapons in movement and the forehand, and is not dominated by players in the top 10

STOP HATING AND GO EAT A SANDWHICH YOU GUYS

Monaco must be the only top 10 player ever who has never been past the fourth round of a slam, with the exception of Massu who at least won the gold.

A crocked retirement win? Even Almugro could win that way...

He's friends with Nadal. He got double bageled by Nadal at RG as a top 10 player. Quick way to make yourself hated around here.

It counts as a win and injuries are part of the game.

OK. But if Nadal was playing Monaco or a 80 ranked player anywhere I'd give the latter more of a chance.
