Well it's not too hard to tell when he didn't call a medical time out for the whole match and untill then he was running after every ball and showed no signs of injury at all. I know there are some very small chances he would've had some pain which wasn't obvious and i'm sorry if it's so but i really doubt it. I don't think a player can run like that on a court and then suddenly retire
I didn't see the match but a poster said that he had had a treatment for his lower back in the end of second set.

Nice win for Thiemo anyway. I hope he can get back to the top 100 soon. He looked like he was ready but has not done alot this year yet.

Default Re: Rotterdam R1: De Bakker def. Youzhny 3-6 7-6(2) 4-1 ret.

Youzhny has no adequate enough excuses for this retirement. Yes, I'm not blind, he was struggling, all through the match, but as soon as he starts to lose, he quits?

I don't know about you, but that's poor form. Could he have finished the match without damaging himself further? Should he have finished the match? Yes to both. I think this says a lot about Youzhny's current mental state, the fight is not there anymore and as soon as something, a little niggle perhaps, starts to bother him, he quits. A shame, but all tennis players make mistakes and this is yet another one.

Thiemo played intelligent tennis at the end of the second set and beginning of the third, and demonstrated his variety and great hand skills with some nice volleys and a lot of accurate backhands. He deserved to win this match, without an opponent retiring to tarnish it, somewhat.

I got the impression there was something seriously bothering Youhzny (got treatment on his back) and I don't know him as a quitter so I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt for his retirement.
Not a bad performance at all from the De Bakker. Hope it will give him much needed confidence for the rest of the season.

Thiemo needed this win so much. I hope he can make a good match now against Fed and build on it.
I thought it was a bad idea to play Rotterdam considering his form, the draw and the fact he wants to play the challengers in South America after that... but this win is so important

Hey long time no see Excited about the upcoming new Wilson-album? and listened to Riverside's new one yet??

OT: Youhzhny was bothered in his serve, this much was obvious. I was pleasantly surprised by de Bakker's attitude though, he looked hungry and pumped Serve was great, the rest was ok-ish, let's see what he can do against Fed (or Zemlja, you never know)

Good to see De Bakker grab a tour-level victory. It's been a while. I was so sure of this guy a few years ago, and then he just floundered.

Sorry to hear that Youzhny is injured. Hopefully it's nothing major.
