Re: South Africans
Raven Klaasen is a really talented South African player, I saw him at a few challenger events and I was impressed with his game.
However it seems his ranking has from 323 to 493.....

Re: South Africans
A more than impressive performance by Wesley Moodie this weekend. It was awesome how his serve was coming in, almost 70% first serves throughout the match, lots of aces, uncountable service winners. Way above average baseline and return play that we normally are used from him.
He definitely raised his game for his team and under these conditions in the thin air of Johannesburg he would have been a very very dangerous opponent for every player I believe. You just can't do much if your opponent is consistently serving like that.
If Moodie played like that for huge stretches of the season, he would be top 30 easily. Even Becker, who was co-commentating for German TV on Sunday, said that. He was expecting Moodie's level to drop some times as it normally happens in a longer match, but it just didn't happen.

The only sad thing was that Wayne Ferreira couldn't play any better, you could see that Wayne was very unhappy about his performance and I felt with him. He also didn't want to give any interviews after the match against Schüttler.
It's bad that this guy had to play what seemed his probably his last professional matches like that. But with Rik de Voest injured there wouldn't have been better possibilities either.
Ferreira already offered his help as a team captain for the South African team. I think he will get this job soon, good luck!

Re: South Africans
I think South African tennis is recovering in the end of the year. Moodie won his first ATP title in Tokyo, and De Voest won the Sacramento Challenger!

Re: South Africans
I am surprised Wes didn't win one already, it is crazy! He could be top 30 for sure.
Please visit Jeff [Coetzee]'s thread & website, happy to chat about South African tennis there

Re: South Africans
Im kinda surprised to see nobody's mentioned Fritz Wolmarans yet. He's one of the higher ranked South Africans (at 548 currently), who's had some decent results at the Futures level (reached a final and a semi-final last year).
I saw him last year at the Tulsa Challenger against Sco, I was pretty impressed with what I saw. He seemed to do everything pretty well! He could volley, serve (serve and volley if I remember correct), hit good ground strokes, and he could actually hit a pretty good slice too (and he did it fairly often too, which isn't something you see every day anymore )!
Im considering making a small site on him in the future. I'll probably get around to it shortly. Now if I can just get my mother to let me get fritzwolmarans.com hehe.

Re: South Africans
Ok! Now I just need to figure out where Im going to host it at, and what all Im going to have on it. The last part I figure will be kinda hard since there really isnt much on him, but oh well, that was the case with Sco and I got a site up about him, so I figure I should be able to do it again! Ill be sure to come back and say something when its done! Oh and if anyone has anything they would like to contribute (facts, pics, art work, etc...), feel free to send it to me via PM or email (you can email it to aj_m2009[at]yahoo[dot]com)! If you do, please include who you would like to be credited as on the site.
