The german team both men and women are so so bad right now. Grossner is a terrible shooter specially in prone position. If only she hit just a little bit better, she would be a WC contender in any category, specially Sprint and Mass Start. In men Birbacher is a ok skier and shooter but not very impressive to be a WC contender. Will always be the eternal 3rd, beheind Fourcade and Svendson.

I miss those days of Sven Fischer, Fran Luck, Uschi Disl, Kati Whilelm, Gross and even Greis.

(BTW as you see I am a Germany Biathlon team fan, even if I dont have any connection to the country. Also, I am probably the only one in Portugal who likes and even understand this sport.)

As for Svendsen, reports say he might still compete in the two remaining events.

Yes, the German team is uncharacteristically weak atm. Gössner has at least won a few races, Birnbacher also, but they are nowhere near where they used to be. I remember when every single German entered into an event was at least a podium threat. Can't say I miss it as much as you...I grew up with (East) German dominance and always wanted more variety.

I love variety in biathlon. There are times when the top 10 comes from 10 different countries. And I also like how the relays, unlike in other winter sports, are very competitive and the number of countries participating keeps getting bigger.

27 in the mixed this year!

I wouldn't rule out the Germans for both relays, though. Sure, there are at least 4 stronger teams for the women's, but if Gössner shoots well enough to avoid penalty loops they might be in contention for the last leg.

You're right, can't rule them out.

Under ideal circumstances, at least 10 nations could end up with a relay medal. Germany is of course among them. And the competitions are quite open. Before the championships I would have taken the Russians to win both relays, but they have not been impressive so far. Norway's chances in the men's are diminished by Svendsen being sick - he could still make the team but will probably not be 100%.

That was the most excited relay which I ever seen.

First Poland was on lead, then Russia, Czech, italy, Germany and finally Norway took it.
Great post for Solendal huge success for Italy
We are 19th, hope tomorrow we can make top 15

Wow! What a relay! That was really something. I feel for the less merited Germans, who managed to give their only star the lead, only to see her finish 5th. I am happy for the Italians, nice to see them take a medal. And Norway? Just incredible. Gold #6 with three events to go. Simply fantastic. Solemdal the biggest contributor but Berger the decider, as always.

Who would've predicted Italy to score a medal ahead of Germany, France, Poland and Russia? And the big names haven't treally had abad day either. Such a well deserved bronze!

I must say I am really satisfied with our results in relays this year. Hopefully men won´t ruin it today.

Yes, he's going to enter both remaining events as his sore throat cleared quite soon.
