Default "Djokovic is lucky, give me two years without injury and...": Nadal

From: http://www.vamosbrigade.com/articles...viewfeb13.html

Quote:
Q: Did you watch the Australian Open?
Rafa: No, I didn’t have access to Eurosport.

Q: Excuse me?
Rafa: Our satellite tv channels have changed in January so that’s why. Well, I did see images of it. What can I say about it? First of all, Djokovic has proven once again that he’s a great competitor he is. Secondly, that he’s a superb tennis player. And thirdly, that he is a player who doesn’t get injured. That’s lucky. He can do what he wants and it all works well for him. Give me two years without an injury and….
Ahem.. bitter Rafa?

Q: Do you know that some people think that your 7-month absence is due to a silent doping ban?
Rafa: Yes and those rumours exist because those doping tests are not made public. The ITF needs to be transparent. Same with WADA. If not, it will continue and I will be forced to have to hear the stupid comments Christophe Rochus (*) utters without any evidence. It’s incredible to me that something like that gets published without any evidence. Give me evidence and I’ll be okay with it.
Rafa speaking on the silent ban theory.

Well... Without being disrespectful, Rafa's style of play is a big injury-maker I think.

He went through 9 doping tests while off tour

He also agrees with Wilander's comments

Quote:
Q: In Australia, Mats Wilander said that you won’t have enough time and that even if your name is Nadal, you will be an outsider in Paris this year…

Rafa: Good. Alright. We’ll see. It’s true that I won’t be the favourite in Paris but I don’t need to be in order to win.

Sigh. When Rafa(or any other player, for that matter) makes a statement like that, I wish the reporter had the guts to reply something in the lines of "You are the one who is lucky. Had I started playing tennis when I was a kid...."

We all know Rafa is the most dominant force ever to set foot on a tennis court. He would've won so much more slams if he was healthy, it's sad really. Probably one or two CYGS.

And it's not his style of play, being a defensive, high intensity player doesn't automatically mean you get knee problems. That's just bad luck. Rafa is just about the only one I can think of with severe knee issues on tour, is he the only one to do a lot of running?

Nadal wasn't injured when Nole ripped him apart in those finals in 2011.

No. It is his style of play. I'm no doctor, but if it's not the knee, it's gonna be something else. The way Nadal plays, hurt his body. The harder he plays, the worse the injury he'll get. Seeing how successful he is, it's a trade off that worth it, IMO.

I won this title 7 times, I have 52-1 record but Roger is the greatest in history and Djokovic is #1, no? I can't be the favourite, no?

He said the exact same thing about Federer a couple of years ago. Goes to show how much he relies on his supposed injuries to justify his position to himself. If Federer had started finding his form when younger or if Djokovic hadn't messed around for nearly 3 years after his first slam...
