As you said randomness leads to lucky or unlucky outcomes.
Of course in the long term supposedly it all evens out.
But the draws especially with nadal now in 5th and Ferrer in 4th the rankings may be the difference between winning or losing a tournament.
Look at the AO. Djokovic, apart from the Ferrer match, played average tennis. Had he drawn Murray in his half we could now have Roger or murray as the AO champions.

Not necessarily correct if it's truly random.

No, if it's truly random then it evens out. Meaning in the long run the 1 seed should get the #3 seed half of the time and the #4 seed half of the time for example.

We're not talking about large numbers at all, though. In theory you could get Fed getting the theoretical most difficult draw every year from 2003 to 2013 in the slams (for example). It's not a sample that's big enough to work with that theory.

Yes of course. 11*4=44, 44 is nothing. Was just talking theoretically.

How could his draw have been worse? Tsonga losing early is no reflection on the draw.

Besides, Simon is potentially not a much easier oponent for Fed than Tsonga.

I know. I commented upon this after the draw, and said Tsonga might be a blessing in disguise as I expected him to beat Simon, a worse matchup. Unfortunately, he didn't oblige.
