Default Vinciguerra

I saw he doesn't play since February. Why is that? Is he injured?

Default Re: Vinciguerra

His mind is not really with tennis at the moment.

Vinciguerra i krogbråk

Translation
Andreas Vinciguerra is suspected of assault. This after the 23 yr old tennis star was involved in a brawl in and outside a restaurant/tavern in Malmö.
Vinciguerra was captured by the police after the incident on Saturday night, but was released hours later after the decision of the prosecutor on duty, states the Expressen (newspaper). The trouble started inside the tavern between Vinciguerra and some of his friends and a Danish gang.

After they had been kicked out, the trouble continued outside the tavern, there Vinciguerra was suspected of kicking one of the Danes. He had also identified one of the Danes involved in the trouble.

The Swede admitted that he was involved in the confusion, but in announcement that he gave about the assault, it was he that got hit.

Vinciguerra for many years was one of the big hopes in Swedish tennis, but there is a question mark after persistent leg injuries, whether he can continue his tennis career.

Well, I wasn't surprised to hear about his mind not being into tennis at the moment because of injuries, which was true, and is a reason for many players who are missing in action, but who would expect a brawl story?!?!
It's true, he does have talent and he did have Swedish hopes but also international hopes. I remember Andreas being put in that "rising star" group right before Andy Roddick's batch.

Default What's the deal with Andreas Vinciguerra?

1999: reached the finals of ATP Bastad while being ranked 390th, went on to reach QF's in Shanghai and Stockholm later that year.
2000: played a full year on the ATP tour, winning ATP Copenhagen and reaching another final in Bastad.
2001: another full year on the ATP tour, a final in Copenhagen, getting his career best GS result at the Australian Open (4th round, lost to Kafelnikov) and reaching a career high ranking of 33 after reaching the SF's of the ATP Masters in Paris.
2002: 13 first round losses, slipped outside the top 200.
2003: recuperated a bit, finishing the year inside of the top 100.
2004: only played two tournaments.
2005: only played six tournaments.
2006: played quite a bit, finishing inside the top 150.
2007: didn't play at all.
2008: didn't play at all.
2009: resurfaces out of nowhere, playing two Davis Cup epics against Israel and reaching the semi's in Bastad, while not achieving much outside of that.
2010: only played two Davis Cup ties, Bastad and ATP Zagreb.
2011: only played Bastad.
2012: one Davis Cup tie, one Futures which he won and one R1 loss in a Finnish Challenger.
2013: resurfaces again with a WC for the Challenger in Bergamo, in which he beats Fischer and Teixeira and now faces Struff.

That's one weird looking career. I can't even remember if I've ever seen him play, but from the looks of it he hasn't been fully competitive for ten years, but still goes out there to compete and being highly competitive whenever he does play. Looks like a highly talented guy to me, who despite injuries still has the heart to keep coming back. But please, tell me the story of this guy.

It sadly says a lot about the state of Swedish tennis the last few years, needing to keep calling on him to have a full Davis Cup team.

I don't know for certain but injuries is the main cause I think. Plus he also seemed a little flaky.

The guy is unlucky, in 2000 he was mentioned in one sentence alongside Safin (24), Federer (64), Hewitt (25) & Ferrero (42) as a player belonging to a new generation of stars. In parenthesis ranking in the end of 1999, Vinciguerra finished as No. 98, so they were five teenagers to finish '99 in the Top 100.

Lots of injuries, had some other issues going on. Hope he can get through this year virtually injury free. As for the story, well he stormed off the court when he played Koellerer in a Challenger. Walked off straight in the courtesy car back to hotel and left the event.

Never won Båstad, should have beat Marin in the final. Zero backhand, but very popular with fans cause of his determination on court.
