Default Will Rafael Nadal be match fit enough to play/win the 2015 Australian Open?

Rafael Nadal underwent successful surgery today!

He probably will be off the courts till sometime in early December, probably amusing himself with poker and golf in the meantime.

Considering he only played in 7 matches after Wimbledon (July 1), and his last on Oct. 24, do you think (not hope) he can be fit enough to be 100% ready to play and win at the Australian Open January 19, or do you think he intends to start on the clay in South America as in 2013?

Respectfully,
masterclass

Play yes, win no, of course it also depends on his draw. I'd say he reaches the QFs but that's it.

No. He wants another AO and I don't see him skipping it. His doctor was interviewed post-surgery and said everything went well and if all goes to plan Nadal should be ready to practice again in 3-4 weeks. They will take things slowly so he is fully fit for Australia. Australia is 77 days away. Even if he takes 30 days before stepping on a court, he still has a good chunk of time to get ready. Will play exos and Doha as usual so should get matches under his belt...

Winning is a different thing but I imagine he will be competitive. Slow hard courts suit him vs most players. Still difficult to see many beating him in best of 5 on those courts. Has done very well there in recent years (last 5 participations: F; F; QF; QF; W). Loss to Murray in QF or Ferrer (after he tweaked hamstring in opening games) is not bad. Otherwise been to the final last 2 participations.

Time is not an issue IMO. Rust will be...

If he gets 4+ Matches in Abu Dhabi & Doha combined he'll be more than competitive as the AO seems to be his second favorite GS court after Paris...

How well he does depends on whether he meets Djokovic in the semi final or final.

The app is a minor surgery. He needed time to get his back in shape.

People forget 2014 he played the whole year with a back problem. It started in the AO Final. And never really recovered.

Then came the wrist and the App, the app was kind of a blessing because he got more time off and didnt playr much, because that could of hurt the wrist more.

I dont think hell skip AO, its still his and Noles to loose.

This is absolute bullshit. Of course he will be fit. Any person can recover from an appendectomy in 2-4 days.

Nadal will be fit but will decide not to play just so he can train. Hopefully his 2015 season won't be as good as 2013 though.

apendectomy is a very minor operation. he should be 100 percent for AO.Healthy or not he wont win it. It's not clay.

He will be physically fit but not match fit and hardened, so can't see him winning it.
Obviously he wants a double career grand slam, so he'll be there.
If Novak goes out early his chances increase, but there are more dangerous players now than there were 12 months ago.
