Did you see the Safinesque racket smash yesterday? Watching this match and wanting him to win was really a déjà vu from my Safin times.
At least tomorrow night I'm not gonna freak out about the winner, if Ernests is better then he's better. He certainly has the power & ability to sweep Rafa off the court.

Believe me, I know all the arguments But considering that Ernests has been playing like crap since 2010 (except for his LA run in 2011) I just can't bring myself to root against him. Rafa got a lot of confidence from his clay tournaments and he'll get more, this IW tournament is not crucial for him. Also, Ernests already has 4 losses against Rafa, I want him to get a win finally.

There isn't much bandwaggoning happening. There are a lot of threads about Gulbis in GM, true, but they contain more surprise and disparagement than bandwaggoning. People have been burned by Gulbis before so they're very cautious now. Most posters say either "I hope he can keep it up" or "he gets hot once in a while, it won't last" or "he's so arrogant, he doesn't care about tennis, he better retire soon". Hardly anyone is saying "he's the next big thing for sure".

So many people suddenly his fan though, hyping him up to be the next big thing. Kinda annoying. I don't hate the guy but I refuse to follow what every one else is doing.

You're wrong with this kind of thinking I've been posting about Gulbis not because I love him so much more than Rafa but because I've been enjoying his run immensely - and that's because of his 3 year long slump, not because I like him that much more. In fact, I like Rafa's attitude to tennis and life in general much better, Gulbis just has those "he's the best Latvian tennis player ever" and "big underachiever" factors that speak to me.
