Default AO radio, and tennis radio in general

Anyone else finds it REALLY irritating?

I'm was on my way home a couple of days ago, and I decided to put on my headphones and listen to a match. But the radio commies...MY GOD!

You can hear the player hit his serve, and after that it's all "Federer hits a serve wide Davydenko cross court forehand Federer with the backhand slice Davydenko cross court again..........."
Wouldn't it be better to just STFU and announce the score after each point? Or even just drop the commentators and let the listeners just hear the ball hit the court and rackets. Would make it much better, wouldn't it?

I don't see what you'd gain over just seeing the livescores, if they did that.

Well u are not gaining anything this way either. Plus, it's better to just hear the game than to hit the refresh button over and over.

Livescores update automatically. What you're getting currently is the ability to have some information about what is happening during the point.

Obviously some people appreciate that, even if you don't.

I've listened the AO radio too. It can be stressing, but I find it useful Maybe it would be better if they give less details while the point is being played and tell them between points I love to see all the sound of the players while they are shoting a strong shot, or the sounds of rachets hitting the ball or the floor, etc.

We have to appreciate that the Australian Open gives us a radio programme to follow this tournament. This is not common and I miss this great service in other important tournaments, as I can't see lot of matches because of my daily stressing life... so having headphones and a mobile phone in my pocket is a very powerful weapon to stay tuned to tennis

radio 5Live in the UK is fantastic, Johnathan Overend is a brilliant commentator.

All four majors have a radio service. Wimbledon, in fact, has three separate channels--an "around the grounds" one that bounces between the action, as well as a dedicated channel each for Centre and Court 1. I personally LOVE listening to the "Around the Grounds" feed--more than anything else it gives me a sense of being there. The radio service was around for years as Radio Wimbledon, but is now operated as "Live @ Wimbledon" by IMG. Still the same concept, but with a little less charm.

Radio RG is pretty good as well, while USO Radio is very meh.

As far as radio goes...

Wimbledon>Roland Garros>Australian Open>US Open

Davis Cup runs an online radio thing for the final, as well.

This thread is one of the all-time greats.

You could be the pioneer of radio commentary without commentary.
