I would like to see the measurements as an argument, not general consensus. General consensus can be achieved even on the most insane matters.

AO switched from Rebound Ace to Plexicushion in 2008, which is definitely slower.
Also, USO in 2011 was significantly slower than before.

Plexicushion is quicker than Rebound Ace. It played slow in the introduction year 2008 and strangely again this year. Played fast last year, 2011, 2010 and 2009. Agree with USO, its slowed down all of a sudden in '11.

And for heavy servers hitting the ball at over 200 km/h, it takes only 0.45 seconds across the court, only the last quarter of the trajectory after a contact with the surface, that is 0.12 seconds.
Having that a reaction time of the world's best sprinters is 0.12 to 0.14 seconds, it seams to me that the player's ability is more important factor than court properties.

“Does Djokovic resemble myself?” Agassi said. “No, he is even better. He defends really well, while I struggled more in that element of the game. Novak looks totally relaxed when defending, completely calm and the quality of his return is incredible. He is also extremely flexible in his game, which is facilitated by his ability to anticipate his rival’s moves. That is why I think he is a much more versatile player than I was and he is also much more athletic.”

Personally, I find interesting having slow and fast hard courts: we have clay (slow court), grass (fast court, it isn't as fast as before but I think that they have to make it faster because this is the essence of grass). Then, we have hard courts now, wich are the middle point between this two classical surfaces (that are played on the ATP tour less than they should, specially grass... what a shame). So, as a middle point between fast and slow surfaces, I think that hard courts have to be made of different speeds. We can make hard courts with lots of materials, so we can change the speed easily.

But, in general, tennis is slower than before. And I think that it is not positive, as matches are more and more physical and we see exhausted players on tour at the end of the season. It is not beauty to see a player loosing a match because he had an exhausting match on an early round. Injuries now are more common than before (or these are my feelings). We are putting the physical form almost at the same level of the tennis technique and ability, and I think that this is wrong. The rallies are longer and more exciting, but there is magic too in short rallies. They are beauty too. However, my favourite surfaces are slow courts, but I agree that we have to equalize the fast and slow court tournaments (and play more in classical surfaces: clay and grass).

So I took things into my own hands, and did some frame-by-frame video analysis on the Djokovic vs Wawrinka match.
The speed ratio before and after the ball contacted the surface was 2.196 times on average, that is, the ball was that slower after the touch.
But, the playing style was an important factor as well, since after Wawrinka's shots the average ratio was 2.033 (varying from 1.868 to 2.217), whereas after Djokovic's shots the average ratio was 2.358 (varying from 1.985 to even 3.064 - obviously, Djokovic having much greater variety in shot selection).

Will compare that to, say, AO 2000 final, when I find the time.

Only Tbird i think.

He has these baseliners that would work pretty well on fast surface, being rather flat and quite powerful.

you're sickening. every single thought in your mind is anti-federer as if he is hitler or something lol. you're so jealous of him wow. it amuses me, because djokovic will never be considered greater than him and that HURTS your soul!! that's why you're here 24/7 posting 30 anti-federer comments a day to feel better about your miserable sorry life. loser... same goes for your other hater buddies (mostly serbians) pathetic. get a life

I would agree with this.

His Wimbledon 09 run of serve-volley tennis to the SF was a remarkable effort when you consider that brand of tennis has been hit harder than any from the homogenisation.
