It's not the only reason comparing to the 90s by the way : also the seeding system.

But I don't think that Fed did say that it helped him against the likes of Nadal, Djokovic and Murray, who have been his main opponents for long. He's not stupid.

I think overall Fed has mostly suffered of slower hardcourts against those, but I don't think he's suffered of slow grass overall because it's also helped him against big servers.
You just put yourself in a loop with those two statements. By that very explanation, he wouldn't have met Nadal, Djo and Murr as often as he did in all these years and they wouldn't have been his main opponents. Because faster courts would have defined more upsets a la US open 2012, wimbledon 2010 for pink and Wimbledon 2012 for Rafa.

So just so you know pinktards, the real victims are players below the top 4. Djokovic and Pink are least affected by slowness. Proven with stats.

Out of those guys, Tsonga, Berdych, Federer.

You're more likely to see a lot of lower-ranked guys do better though. Think Stepanek, Llodra, Karlovic, etc.

I also see them speeding up the courts for the future generation - they seem to prefer quicker courts.

Rafito would have been irrelevant outside of clay if they didnt slow down all the surfaces for him

Rafito would have only been a clay trick pony, similar to Thomas Muster.

Whether attack is better than defence is up to your own personal biases.

I'm pretty sure we want to see variety in surfaces though, just like up to the mid 2000's.

That would expose the limitations of a couple of transitional #1 players that succeeded Federer...

which one do you choose to watch:

1. Murray - Simon
or
2. Federer - Tsonga

another example (to be equal):

1. Murray - Djokovic
or
2. Federer - Djokovic

?

Do you still really want to know?

federer is the second best clay courter in this era- (not saying much)

slow hard courts suit pushers like egg

faster courts and egg gets bagled (like in cinncinati)

egg doesnt have the topspin shot nadal did to trouble fed- but on super slow courts like hamburg- fed had time to run around and steady himself for nadals one trick

of course it was the worst thing you ever read- anything that doesnt suck off the egg must be horrible for you to read

A random remark: it has often been said (and as a long time fan I can say I agree) that Djokovic adapted his game and turned from offensive baseliner into aggressive counterpuncher due to the slowing down of the courts. In a hypothetical situation that the courts would have been quicker all around, not only would he have remained a more offensive player than he is today, but I feel that Murray especially would have changed his own game. Faster courts would force Andy to become more offensive earlier on in his career and he certainly has the physique and technique to play a good all-court game. This leads me to think that if all other things would have remained the same (f.i. Murray starting to train under Lendl only in 2012), he would be sitting on more than one major right now.
