It was very close, but Gulbis certainly wasn't the better player. Przysieżńy had breakpoints in both sets, whereas on Przy's serve Gulbis got to deuce once, twice at most. Przy was very solid off the ground for his standards.
Przysiezny as always up for a match against a big name player , he has a peculiar habit of playing like an amateur against very low ranked players but you can count on him to show up for a match like this.

Re: Week 6 : Bergamo (Entry list)
And yeah I watched the entire Gulbis-Przysiezny and Gulbis was not a better player at all. It was a decent game from both guys, I think Gulbis didn't even get a single break-point, and as the match progressed, his returning went worse and worse against a not-choking Przysiezny. Nice s&v on a couple occassions by a Pole as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if Gulbis called it career soon.
BTW, the stands were full for the evening session, very nice

I think few people would care if Gulbis retired, to be honest. He is semi-retired by this point anyway.

You're wrong with this one - he has alot of fans (well, mostly girls) and has an active forum in MTF.

Heartbreak can only last so long and I presume the hearts of these girls have become really numb over the last few years.
Anyways, I cannot understand why one would support a player who finds it beneath himself to play Challengers. The path to the Top 100 was via Challengers for almost everyone, and Gulbis is deluded if he thinks he can rely on WCs (and, after the successes that naturally come from someone with his divine talents, special exempts) to get back to the top. The arrogance is dumbfounding.

Re: Week 6 : Bergamo (Entry list)
Galovic(Q) def. Knittel 4-6 6-3 2-1 ret.
Such an awesome week for him coming through qualies, now on to the SF against Dustov-Przysiezny winner. No idea about the reason why Knittel retired, couldn't find it, but it's great to see Viktor again with some great serve numbers plus the result will do wonders for his ranking. I hope he doesn't feel any pressure now, even if his journey is likely to end in the next match. Vai Vik

He says on his homepage it was because of an injury.
