Nice one from D.-V. in the TB!

Boy, they were lucky, Philipp really couldn't hit the ball over the net for a while, and that "slice error" at *4-3 was pretty shocking.

I was quite happy with his returning game today. Just those two games from 4-3 to 4-5 were really pathetic. Now probably against the Bryan mugs in the quarterfinal. This sounds like a Grandstand match at least.

He's top 50 now.

Kas said they proved now that they are a worldclass team. They want to try everything in the next match, because if they win, aynthing is possible in this tournament.

When this mountain is exceeded, it is possible to win the championship.
It's like a Cuevas/Horna at Roland Garros.

He is so fucking pathetic. Broken to love. Totally missed three passing shots from the T in the first two games.

edit Okay, he is good now. Two damn good games now to break back 4-5, Philipp broke with a lob winner.

6-7(14)

Kas kinda lost this. They had four set points, Kas double faulted on one. Philipp was really good, I think even saved 3 set points on return. He also got his returns in on his three own set points, but the Bryan mugs had the luck.

It was defeated at the yankee pair. It is unbelievable, it is a nightmare

Anyway there is power only of advancement to the quarterfinal by two continuous Grand Slam. It is near on the day won the Grand Slam Title.

It expects Philipp

Very strange, he got broken to love twice in the match, but between those two games he was world class I would say. He had one blackout at 67 44 0-30, when he missed a high volley. Then the Bryans got a lucky net cord for the break. Philipp didn't get a 1st serve in in that game.

As you can see on the first pic, there weren't many people, but still the atmosphere was quite good. It was an embarrassing day for the umpire. Our team was angry with her several times and then in one game at 40-0 Kas hit a clear ace with net cord, but somehow she didn't say "let". So Kas/Petzschner just walked to their chairs and laughed when she said "Game Kas/Petzschner".
Philipp also said something that sounded like "do you have a bet on them?".

Petzschner should look for a better partner. Players like Kas show the misery of the doubles competitions. He´s in the Top 30 and nobody knows why.
For me, he is totally overrated. Philipp has more potential, in single and in double competition. If he concentrates on doubles and really has a good partner, he could be Top 10, no doubt.

Thanks a lot for the report, JMG, I couldn't watch it unfortunately.

At least they got some articles for their achievement this time:

Quote:
US Open - Deutsches Doppel nach Krimi raus

Zwei Top-Duos zuvor ausgeschaltet

Aus New York berichtet Petra Philippsen / Eurosport
Philipp means it was completely even and they could have won - and he's right, the journalist adds. Maybe they even should have won. Kas says they were the better team in his opinion from 1:3 in the 1st set. The Bryans were looking nervous. Kas admits he choked when he double-faulted on the only SP they had on serve in the TB. But the Bryans were having a lot of troubles too and needed 5 SP before they managed to take their chance - and celebrated "à la Bryans".
They also should have been 4-2 up in the 2nd set according to the journalist, but they ended up being broken at 5-4 after that unlucky netcord.
Kas: "The loss is really upsetting and hurts. I'm sure we could have won the whole tournament, had we won that match. All the top teams were already out."
Philipp is trying to be positive and points out they beat themselves the teams seeded #5 and #11. They now dream of making it to Shanghai next year, even though Philipp's priority is to improve in singles and to enter the top 100 until the end of the season.
Chrisotpher admits it's hard to ignore the "myth" of the Bryans brothers when you play them and he did let himself be overawed. He also stresses the brothers perfectly understand each other. But Philipp says that he and Christopher get along well too and complement each other nicely.

So it sounds like they will keep playing together since they hope to qualify for Shanghai next year.
