Default Can someone help me on this article?

From CNNSI.COM/tennis

There was a time when U.S. tennis fans embraced foreign players: Rod Laver, Ilie Nastase, Bjorn Borg, Evonne Goolagong in the '70s; Boris Becker, Gabriela Sabatini, Steffi Graf in the '80s. What's changed?

I think it's a function of both the declining number of American pros and the declining number of tournaments. The Swedish Iceman was an aberration -- a Yao Ming-like cultural curiosity 20 years ago -- who stood out from all those Americans. Today, when "internationals" comprise 18 of the top-20 ATP players, that Swede is just another faceless foreigner. Also, Sabatini may not have come from the U.S., but she played the majority of her events here, so eventually she built up brand awareness. Compare that to, say, another Argentine -- David Nalbandian. By my counts, Nalbo played all of two matches in the States in 2004. On a related note ...

I would like to know why he picks David as an example. I don't clearly understand this article. I will be very appreciated if someone can help me. I like the way he calls David "Nalbo".

Why aren't there alternates in this year's Tennis Masters Cup? Kindly enlighten me -- Agassi should have been a shoo-in for the alternate spot.

Willie Canas was the alternate after Agassi and David Nalbandian pulled out with injuries unofficially diagnosed as "I'll be damned if I'm going to Houston to sit on my butt for a week."

I want to know who said the sentence " I'll be damned..................". David or Agassi? I will like that if David said.

I've never read anything about David saying that quote at all. In fact, all he said was that he was not going because of injury. And about the first article, I don't understand the point he's trying to make either...

This is a mess, for sure. I don't know if the writer was trying to sound witty, insightful or what-not, but it sure didn't come across that way. If this was supposed to pass as a sports article, someone missed the mark-badly.

I don't think that David even said that. To my knowledge, like Jazz said, he kindly bowed out due to injuries and left his explanation at that. That particular comment may have come from Agassi-and, in actuality, who could blame him for saying it?

It talked about the internationalization of American sports appreciation. He (actually i still don't know who is this "he") think if a non-American player plays more in USA, then he can get more awareness from the world, coz USA has the "strong" mass media to *publize* them.
Why he picks David as this negative example? I guess first David is a good tennis player, he was the semifinalist of US Open, and play several times with their "precious duck", and even beat him sometimes, so maybe he is more wellknown than many other foreign ones. Second, he formerly mentioned Sabatini as a positive example, now just use another Argentine as the negative one. And David is more typical than other argentine players this year.

But why david was absent with so many US tourneys is just because he suffered many injuries this year and that's why he missed all US TMS. With so many important points in US TMS to catch, he definitely won't miss anyone if free of injury, not mention the hard court is his fav.

So, i feel to this article, and the nick "Nalbo" let me think the MTF "Naldo", add another to it.

I more like this quote, seems Mac could put his ass on a Houston BBQ to roast it by slow fire no matter who said it, david or andre, i like both guys.

Neither Andre or David actually said this. It is a "fiction" of the writer projecting that if you went into their minds, this is what they would be saying. I agree the article is poorly written and the guy knows very little about tennis
