AO is on rebound ace (which is more or less a hardcourt) and the USO in on hardcourt. Isn't it already giving players who like to play on hardcourt a big advantage in the rankings? Also, some players (like the duck) will skip events at the end of the year that are held indoors, will others (like safin) will get used to playing on indoor carpet by the time the tmc comes around. imo, tmc should only be held on indoor carpet because that is the only surface w/o a slam

I agree with some of that but I think the surface should be rotated every year between clay, carpet, hard and grass. Though that would be too logical and the system at the moment does tend to favour certain players though not as bad as the days when it was on carpet.

I think, for both the men and women:

Abolish YEC/TMC. Have a 128-player indoor slam, but in separate cities for the men and women. Run one in Moscow (which easily has enough courts to handle it), and one somewhere else that can also handle it.

but rosie, a fair chance could not actually be fair. so one year its hardcourt, and we have players like gaudio, coria etc. But the next year its on clay, and there are players like roddick, hewitt etc and no gaudio. so it would be difficult for a fair chance, as the players usually change each year

Fair point....but I agree that the surface should be switched.

I can see most of the players from this year's Masters Cup in next year's Masters Cup. Safin, Roddick, Hewitt, Federer and Coria will qualify for years to come. Nalbandian will be added to the mix and most probably Agassi next year. Therefore 1 place left for grabs - could go to any combination of Canas, Ferrero, Henman....Rusedski -

But yes, if the surface were switched, it would make it interesting because the results would be somewhat different.

However, I DON'T think it should be held on clay only a week after the tour ends. If the surface is clay, there has to be at least a 2 week gap to get used to the surface.

still, it should NEVER be on hardcourt because half of the tournaments on the tour are on hard, giving the duck and others a huge advantage. if hard were switched w/clay, the duck would *maybe* be in the top20

Remember that the Master's Cup is just another tournament. As we saw with Federer this year, it is not necessarily decisive in determining who is number one for the year. So I do not think it is crucial to have different surfaces.
While it would be nice to rotate the surfaces, it is hard to imagine everyone involved putting in the time to be at their best on clay, after months of not having played on that surface. Coria will just have to get so good that when Master's Cup comes around he already has No. 1 spot in the bag.

I agree that it should rotate surfaces, but the thing that makes me mad the most, about having the tournement on outdoor hardcourt, is that the weather is just horrible. It should be played indoors, plain and simple.
