Default Gael's Hard Court Season 2015

Gael will play WC Lucas Pouille in R1 Australian Open, then (hopefully) the winner of Janowicz-DelPo. Allez!

MTF is like a group of confused children. One day they love Gael, the next day they despise him; Probably because he beat the shit of Roger in DC final

Well, not really impressive tennis from La Monf except that 4th set. But a win is a win, it should be a priority and good things he seems to embrace the fact that he can pull the fight back. JJ is shaky, so I'm pretty hopeful for Gael

I'm not going to even talk about this match, I stopped watching halfway through the 2nd set, checked the live scores at 1 all in the 5th set and started watching again lol... How do you lot think he will do against Janowicz? His draw is kinda hard.

R2: Janowicz
R3: Lopez
R4: Raonic

That is to out of the quarter. Think he can do it?

It depends on how long you have been following Monfils ! I began around 6 years ago and trust me he has really matured over time ! The first two sets were really tame and there were no Allezs , he seemed disinterested but he successfully fired himself up during third set and won it ! The thing is monfils looked kinda old and experienced to me today ! Monfils of last year would have let it go after being 3-0 down in fifth set like he didn against Murray at last years RG ! But he fought and that's what i meant by he has matured ! His mental strength has always been a talking point and i was really happy he was able to come through !
Jj is a good player but i think Monfils will come out charging on Thursday and take it 3 or 4 sets max!
By the way they met last year in France, monfils won comfortably in 2 sets !

Gael He said before the tournament he wasn't ready to play, and it turned out that way. Great effort from JJ today though.

Hopefully Gael can regroup and come back stronger soon. I know he loved it, but I really wish he hadn't played IPTL.

Not even disappointed, used to him losing when he should win now. He looked very tired in the last 2 sets.

It seems he has more personal problems...

Quote:
Carole Bouchard @carole_bouchard
Monfils on his match vs Janowicz : "A very poor match for me". Says again he has many personal issues right now. "Can't wait to go home".

There's an interview with Gael in l'Equipe today... he doesn't sound very happy.

Thanks to @markalannixon for the translation on twitlonger. http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1skfcvo

Quote:
"My mind isn't much on tennis right now." Gaël Monfils quoted by Frédéric Bernes in l'Équipe. "I was hesitant about playing Australia. I had some physical niggles I had to fix really quickly ..."

Rumours of a possible marriage that didn't work out.

"It's not that at all. All I ask is, be careful about saying all sorts of things. I tell you honestly I have personal problems but I don't have to give details. It's tough when it's something that affects my family. I just found out I was supposed to get married. That's cool. Two years ago I found out I was bankrupt.

"I'm training a lot, but it's not good. They ask me to practise for four hours and then do two hours of physical training, I do it. But the ten minutes or more of basketball that do me good I'm not doing any more. The little flame isn't there.

"Hell, me playing a final here (against Simon)? ... That would be nuts. I'm light years away from that."
He plays Kenny de Schepper in Montpellier R2 tomorrow. Also playing doubles with Dorian Descloix today.

Gael beat de Schepper 6-4, 7-6 (3) It wasn't a classic, but Gael has flu and looked exhausted from quite early in the match, so he did well to keep going and get the win. He was bent over double after virtually every point. He plays Steve Darcis tomorrow night, so hopefully will feel a bit better by then.

Default Re: Gael's Hard Court Season 2015

^^^ Thanks Ausie. No stream of RBA match but I saw some of the ERV match, and Gael still seems a bit out of sorts. He was a bit up and down but ERV was even less consistent.

After the ERV match, Gael said he was still getting over his flu and had been trying different things because de Witt wants him to make some tactical changes. But he told French media he was thinking about taking "some weeks" off after Rotterdam, and a L'Equipe journalist said Gael was still thinking about taking a break, even after his RBA win.

It seems unlikely he will play Marseille - he's not in the EL but French journalists say the tournament want him to play, as they need a big French crowd favourite - and no-one knows if he will play DC. The last time Gael said he was taking some weeks off, he came back early to play DC and it did him a lot of good.

But hopefully he can have a good run at Rotterdam, and maybe he will feel different about everything.

Gael took a WC for Marseille, even though he said he wanted some time off after Rotterdam.

He has a Qualifier in R1 and will hopefully feel a bit better next week.
