Default Australian Open R1: Bernard Tomic routines Leonardo Mayer 6-3 6-2 6-3

Tomic played it simple and efficient. There was really no chance for Leo Mayer. Tomic showed that when he wanted to break, he could break. Also, Tomic played an interesting mix of shots, his game was certainly varied and interesting to watch.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned...

gotta say tomic has a lot of variety for his age and for the tour in general. i don't like his unwillingness to shorten the points though. i fear that is going to cost him against the better players.

Tomic can break these inferior players at will, it seems. His serve currently is also the best it has ever been.

Brands shouldn't trouble him much either, he wants that match against Federer again and this year it's going to be far more competitive.

Nothing newsworthy about this, wake me up when B-GOAT is in the final. Federer's already losing sleep about R3

I agree.

Tomic looked pretty complacent and lacked any kind of intensity. I know it was easy, but it wasn't all business at all. Some of his shots were verrrrrry casual. Hopefully he gets by Brands because I do want to see him play Federer.

Mayer looked out of his depth, his hand looked sore and it obviously affected him.

I also think that Tomic needs to develop a more consistent aggressive game play. One that uses his easy power in standard rallies and starts to dictate more.... not just with great variation but with power aswell. Until he gets that happening i don't think he can beat top 3. But his current form without the over aggression is still enough to beat most players and get consistent results so.....he'll get there

based on what we are seeing, the makings of another great player. only 20 yrs of age, if he keeps injury free has the game to play on all surfaces

Time for Fed to put his head between his legs and kiss his ass goodbye. Tomic's on his way.
