Epic stuff. Just epic. Coming back from a break down in the 5th, reat serve&volley-point to save the mp, closing it out with two aces (19 aces in total). Balls of steel from Jarkko!!!!

Best match of the 1st round. So far at least, well see what happens between Monfils and Dolgopolov- Its been a tight match.

What a disaster. Nieminen has no business being in R2 of a Slam instead of Haas.

Default Re: AO R1: Nieminen def. Haas 7-6(3) 4-6 6-3 4-6 8-6

Actually Nieminem had nothing to do to break back. Just let Haas kills himself...
Nemo did a terrible game at 2-3 in the 5th when he was broken to love, then Haas did a terrible game being broken back to love as well.
At 5-6 Haas had a MP on Nieminem's serve and Jarkko did... a beautiful S&V to save it! After that at 40-40 Haas missed an easy FH volley while Nieminem was outside the court. It should have been a second MP.
At 6-6, Haas did two DFs in a row at 15-30 to give the break to Nieminem who conclude the match on two aces after having so much trouble on his second serve (which is a true weakness considering his first serve is ok)

It was a big choke at the end from Haas but don't forget he play quite poorly today, missing a lot of FH especially. Nieminem could have won in 4 sets, he had a BP at 4-4 in the fourth and was very dangerous on every Haas's serve at this moment

Shame but inevitable. First set Haas should have run away with but Nieminen found the line every time he was on the brink. Seems to always scrape through matches like these, don't know how he does it.

Jarkko So much life...To come back from 4-2 down in the fifth, save MP with serve and volley and to hit two aces to win...outstanding from him He deserves it after getting screwed the last two years in Melbourne and having to play day 1...First actual win over Haas and some great tennis...Best first round match by far on the men's side...Jarkko stepped up and kept fighting...So fucking proud of him Now make use of the draw
