Will Hewitt's record of the youngest player ever to become number one be broken???
Lleyton was just 20 years old and 9 months when he became the best player in the world! It's amazing that there isn't a single teenager in the worlds top 250 at the moment. So obviously this record is gonna stand for a very very very long time if it is ever going to be taken over by someone else.
If anyone in the current era has any chance we would all have to think Tomic would be the favourite seen as he has 7 months to go until he's older than what Rusty was when he became number 1 in the world, other than Tomic who else could that is currently a junior or under 18 doing quite well for themselves? There is nobody that could even make top 10 or 20 in my opinion.
So for me this record will stand forever!!!

Re: Will Hewitt's record of the youngest player ever to become number one be broken??
Hewitt benefited from a transitional period. nadal could have done it if he had that luck but Roger was just too good. nadal won 11 titles in 2005 while 19 years old, 1 of which a slam and 4 masters 1000.
I don't think it will be broken because of the physicality of today's game.

All records will be broken, nothing is forever.
Who knows, maybe in 2016 there will be a 17 yo tenius genius with the combined natural and technical talent of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic?

Yeah, Nadal was unlucky. The RESULTS of his 2005 season (ended when he was 19.5) would've been enough to become number one in many years.
Hewitt's record looks very safe for now.

Actually the 2005's season of Nadal is one of his best of all his career. 2010 and 2008 come ahead because he won better titles those years, but that's all (maybe 2007...).
Hewitt's record is safe for now, but who knows if in another transition period someone couldn't beat what he've done.

his record as the last sub-6ft player to win a slam is also unlikely to ever be broken

I've already blabbed on and on in the "no teens in the top 250" how this is absolutely incorrect. Just because you hear commentators repeat this 1000x per tournament doesn't mean that this is correct. It's utter nonsense.
And all records will be broken, if possible, so it's outlandish to say something like this will never be broken. It will, just not anytime soon.

It will be broken eventually, but not soon.

Djokovic had a lot more points than Hewitt had at 20y8m after 2008 AO.

It could be broken by someone maturing early and having a lot of luck. Is there a Boris Becker out there?
