Very weird since it's clear to all that he should try a different coach for at least a year. He did a little better results-wise during that stint away from his parents (late 2011?). Then he went back to the nest at the beginning of the next season and like clockwork it was back to underperforming. Very hard to explain without going into unwarranted armchair psychologizing. Don't know the guy. Just watch him play, when I can.

I just don't think parents as coaches are good combinations tbh. Sure they might know what they're talking about and do absolutely fine coaching others, but coaching their own son means there's going to be more arguments and disagreements.

^I agree. It works very rarely -- the Williams sisters being the exception that proves the rule.

Well even the Williams sisters use outside coaching these days. Young needs a real coach and fast!!

^Yep, Venus and especially Serena have supplemented throughout their careers. If the Young parents are hoping to emulate the Williams', they've been missing several details.

Donald does have a new coach (Roger Smith) but he's not in Australia because for some reason he couldn't get a visa.

Istomin I don't think that there's much more any other coach could get out of him.

This is probably worse than him losing 0 and 0 to Berlocq on a HC.

Baker must be just about the most weaponless player I've ever seen. Soft strokes with little depth. Works his arse off but there's no way DY should be even dropping sets to him.

Not actually surprised by the result. Donald would have been hyped up to play Blake (he may be faded but still important figure as far as DY is concerned) so this was the letdown. This was a very streaky match.
