5-4 Gilles serves for the first set. 4 games in a row, like that. He just turned it on.

He's going to lose and he hurt his back, remind me again why he plays Davis Cup?

Down a set and 2 breaks in 2nd set, soon will be down 2 sets. He never came back from 2 sets down before. Not a good sign.
Maybe he's really cursed for DC. He may as well just accept that.

Oh f**k. He hurt his back? I'm not actually watching the match, just the scoreboard.
Okay, damn DC.

Well, I give up on DC, for the thousand and one times.
He failed again, and hurt himself in the process.
The only positive thing that I can think of is, he keeps failing and he won't shy away from it. I mean, if I'm him, I'll be avoiding DC like a plague. Surely I'll believe that it's cursed . I hate to have to keep feeling heart broken for him. Oh well, Gilles, hope that his clay season is not going to be affected by this.

I don't think we'll have to worry about it Gillouthe best anymore. I'm pretty sure Gilles just sealed his fate with Clement now the way he did with Forget. Such a pity. You allow yourself to get hopeful and optimistic for one second about a fresh start and a real opportunity at a winnable match for Gilles against the likes of Monaco and how quickly fate steps in to slap you in the face and knock you back down. I feel bad for Gilles. It seems a live DC rubber win just isn't in the cards for him.

Not like he didn't had chances, but since the match vs Melzer he hasn't taken a set in DC , today 2 SP's and Monaco was playable, I thought things would change with Arno, but they haven't I hope he doesn't play DC in quite a long time or ever again.

Agreed, it just wrecks his confidence. Hopefully that back rub was just precautionary.

I think Gilles had back pain today.
He made too many unusual UES on easy balls particularly in important moments of the match and was hitting the ball too short and awkwardly at times (a sign of a bad back in his case)...
He played somewhat decent tennis until 6-5 to serve for the set with some change of pace to disrupt Monaco's rhythm but he was too passive in the tie break.
Otherwise, Monaco was just solid but nothing special, he didn't play his best, still Gilles was incapable to take advantage of the level of his opponent.
A huge opportunity wasted today.

L'Equipe : http://www.lequipe.fr/Tennis/Actuali...rminant/361851

He did hurt his back, but he also said that's not why he lost. His back was better later but it's too late to correct the course. Sunday is not out of the question, at least not from Gilles' physical point of view, he'll have to see how he feels tomorrow. Well, we'll see what happen tomorrow the double first.

Good news that his back got better, I was worried. I really don't care if he gets replaced for the fifth rubber. It might upset Gilles but it will be even worse if he loses a deciding match.

Well, interesting events have unfolded today for day 2 of DC. France just lost the doubles rubber which means they will have to go five matches if they want to pull out the win so if Tsonga can win his reverse singles match, the question now becomes will Gilles play or will Clement sub him out for whom I would guess would be his best choice Benny as Llodra's game really isn't suited for slow clay? I would be really surprised if they decided to keep the reverse lineup as is because I'm sure they view Gilles as a liability now more than anything.

We don't even know if Berlocq will be subbed either. If he isn't, the H2H between him and Benny is 1-1 with Berlocq's one win coming on clay. Gilles' H2H with him is 4-2 with his most recent win over him on clay in Hamburg last year, however, Gilles also lost to him last year on clay in Buenos Aires of all places so it will be interesting to see the route that both teams will go if it comes to a fifth live rubber.

My personal feeling on the matter is that Gilles, if healthy and his back all better, is still the best option if it's Berlocq that he would be playing. He's the higher seed and has beaten him on the surface they are playing on where as Benny hasn't. We'll see I guess.

I think they'll play Nalby in the 5th...This double match don't look too taxing physically for him anyway.

Gilles' still thinking he's going to play, probably. My hope is that he'll walk away. He's not a headcase at all, but he's a headcase in DC. I don't care whatever others said but I'm blaming Forget for screwing his head in DC.

I don't think they'll win the 5th rubber with Gilles or Benny or Mika, I just don't.
