Agreed pretty much about all. What strikes me is how badly he dealt with Paire's dropshots, poor anticipation and horrendous play when he got to them.

Only saw 3 games in the first set, and then I checked the score later and he was down 2/5 in the 2nd. A little surprised that he made it to the TB, but it's a loss so it's disappointing. Another Frenchman, another losing record against , adding confidence to my theory of why he never play well against other Frenchies. Oh well, didn't think he has any chance to win this tournament anyway. He was lucky enough to avoid Paulo, with Paire, Mika and Ritchie in the way to the title, it's only a matter of time he got kicked out. Same doubts in every loss, wondering if he ever going to break thru to get to another level (or simply to get back to his own higher level), I can only hope. Rotterdam next, first I'll hope for a good draw, that usually helps, well, usually.

Default Re: 2013 Winter European Indoors, Allez!

Rotterdam Draw:

Roger Federer [1] - Grega Zemlja
Mikhail Youzhny - Thiemo De Bakker [WC]
Julien Benneteau - Michael Llodra
Jerzy Janowicz [7] - Victor Hanescu

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga [3] - Igor Sijsling [WC]
Martin Klizan - Paul-Henri Mathieu
Marcel Granollers - Qualifier
Gilles Simon [5] - Qualifier

Florian Mayer [8] - Nikolay Davydenko
Grigor Dimitrov - Bernard Tomic
Marcos Baghdatis - Benoit Paire
Richard Gasquet [4] - Victor Troicki

Andreas Seppi [6] - Qualifier
David Goffin - Jarkko Nieminen
Robin Haase - Qualifier
Juan Martin Del Potro [2] - Gael Monfils [WC]

Not happy to see Granollers in 2nd round, then again, I should see it as an opportunity for Gilles to even out the HtoH a bit against him. I can understand other match up issue Gilles has against a lot of players, I don't understand the Granollers one, no disrespect to Marcel but I watched Gilles lost to him so many times and I still think Gilles has no reason to have any trouble with him. But anyway, we'll see. This is the 4th tournament of the season, he needs to show some vital sign to give us some hope.

Moving on to the Double Draw:

Granollers & Lopez [ESP, 1] vs. Bopanna & Ram [IND/USA]
Knowle & Polasek [AUT/SVK] vs. Baghdatis & Dimitrov [CYP/BUL]
Lindstedt & Zimonjic [SWE/SRB, 3] vs. Butorac & Hanley [USA/AUS]
Nestor & Youzhny [CAN/RUS] vs. Fleming & Marray [GBR]

Huey & Inglot [PHI/GBR] vs. Del Potro & Llodra [ARG/FRA]
Paire & Simon [FRA] vs. Fyrstenberg & Matkowski [POL, 4]
De Bakker & Huta Galung [NED, WC] vs. Haase & Sijsling [NED, WC]
Benneteau & Gasquet [FRA] vs. Qureshi & Rojer [PAK/NED, 2]

If Paire is really a double specialist , maybe they will win a match, or 2....

ALLEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I came across this quiz interview he did this past week at the Sud De France tournament but it's all in French. So instead of putting it in the video thread, I thought I might put it here since this thread gets more traffic and maybe some of our French-speaking Gilou fans could give us a quick translate of what's being said.
I tried to use the youtube translator but it just butchers it all up so it's hard to really get what's being said.

Gilles got Daniel Brands the qualifier. He's the one I don't want him to get. Big server on a fast indoor surface, bad news for Gilles, Gilles lost to him on clay before, so double bad. Oh well, if he can't put away a lesser opponent, then he's not worthy. So C'mon Gilles.

Tomorrow 2nd match on Center Court not before 12:30 pm local time.
Allez!

Gilles could really lose this match, I was looking at his results this year and Brands is playing really well. He needs to win these types of matches but we all know how he's capable of losing to anyone.

What I understood was that they asked him for his first future and challenger results, his first points for the ATP, his first doubles, his best doubles performance and in the end Gilles tells them to verify his answer for Grasse. They said it was wrong, but he's sure he's right.
Couldn't understand the first question, cause they talk through each other. Something with a grand slam? That's all I can make of the quiz with my little knowledge of French. It would be easier if it's subtitled, since I'm better at reading than listening.

Sorry, don't have a stream for you. It's on tv in NL, discovered it just now when Gilles will serve for the match.

Surprisngly solid stuff from Gilles . I though a big server like Brands would put him a lot of pressure on his own serve, but he didn't as he won 81 % on 1st serve , and countered Brands serve effectively ( won 36% on Brands 1st serve and 70% on the 2nd). Still some work to do on BP's, 3/10 converted, just 1/3 saved. Next up is Viola, good luck Gilles

I confess, I gave Brands 51% chance of winning this, bcos I'm lacking confidence in Gilles these days . Gilles sorry for doubting you. He's actually having a good record on TB this season so far. Granted, all those he beat were mugs, but he lost TB to plenty of mugs last year, so...not bad.

Now the draw is really opening up for him, no Granollers, no Tsonga. No pressure Gilles, but there's an opportunity for you to take it. C'mon now. Although I fear he does feel pressure being the favorite all the way to SF. Well, we'll see how it goes.

Tomorrow double match with Paire. I would love to see that match. I mean, so much hotness with him and Benoit together on the same side (not as much as him and Chardy though ). Allez, Frenchies!

Tsonga, Matthieu, and Granollers are all out. This is Simon's quarter of the draw to seize!
