I was impressed with the fact that Grigor missed a lot of routine shots including some easy backhand slices but was able to brush them off and stay on course. The end of the second set was great - hopefully he can keep up that level for a longer period tomorrow because he will need to. He will also need to serve well and be aggressive on second serve returns. If he gets pinned behind the baseline Delpo will eat him alive. I think his new coaches are creating good gameplans and he seems better prepared for his opponents this year - tomorrow will be a good indicator as to where he's at. Getting off to a good start will be crucial - I think he's got a decent chance to surprise a few people tomorrow...
Some great shotmaking from both players and a good match for Grigor to learn from. He traded groundstrokes well with Del Potro and it was just two loose service games that cost him the match. He still needs to work on that side of his game but he has done well this week and won a lot of new fans. Hopefully he will work hard for the next two weeks and continue to impress in IW.
He played ok but this was not enough against del Potro. Still a good tournament. If only 2 of the five players from granollers to paire overtake him in the next two weeks, he will be seeded in IW, so let's hope that simon wins today
I actually thought that he played very well in this match, better than against Baghdatis - Delpo just had all the answers in the end. If he can become more offensive on the return he will be able to get some more breakpoint chances in the future. He's definitely on the right track. Overall a good tournament for him.
I just downloaded the match and watch it myself as I couldn't do it earlier. Grigor did play very well the first set. He was matching DelPo in rallies and has broken himself with few shanks from winning positions witch was a shame, really.
Second set he looked like given up to me, as he'd knew he doesn't have much in his tank left both physically and mentally. A bit more BH shanks occurred and again some really poor errors cost him the break. DelPo was the better player in the second set, truly, and without pushing too much I though he went to save some energy for the final. Otherwise could have won the set something like 6-2.
Grigor can take some positives from this week, it was a good way to finish that losing streak he's had and got some nice wins.
Good luck for the next tournaments
BTW shall we open up some new threads for the tournaments in USA, what do you think?
Its time Grigor`s board to wake up So its not sure if Nadal will play at IW ,but Grigor has a great chance to be seeded Im sure it will be something really special for him to see his name in the seeded list Lets wait and see One for sure,he must keep his level and top 30 is as close as never before
