Re: Grigor " The Great " in 2013 (General thread)
I had a bad feeling when he drew Benneteau - at least not for round#1; he's had some good results and played Roger tough at Wimby last year as well. Let's see what happens the next few weeks.

Well all I can really say is that was a nightmare. I'm still not really over it. I have never seen anyone play such bad tennis. Everything he touched went to s*it. He framed every second shot. Never found his rhythm. Even crappy little bunts wouldn't go in. No matter what he tried he just kept playing worse and worse. It was nothing benneteau did to win it either. It wouldn't have mattered who was down the other end , he would have lost regardless. Complete opposite of what I saw in Brisbane - which was some of the best tennis I've been to in 12 yrs of going to tournaments. All I wanted to do today was give him a big hug

Goodness Gracious, this is devastating. Thank you for the (sad) report, at least you were there to support him. I cannot even imagine what was going in his mind...

Poor result especially as he didn't manage to dig deep and at least make a fight of it. It's disappointing but hopefully he can work with his team to figure out what went wrong and learn from the experience. The best thing he can do to put this behind him is play great tennis in the coming weeks. If he dwells on this too much, he could go into a slump.

Got a message from Sofia tillstrom to say he was really really nervous and just not able to play his best tennis. I think thats a bit of an understatement!! But she left Australia with the kids on Sunday so she wouldn't have seen it. I'm hoping he'll be a bit more relaxed in the doubles and just have some fun. They are actually publishing practice schedules this year so am hoping I can track him down there. I'm here for the week so should at least get to see one doubles match.

Re: Grigor " The Great " in 2013 (General thread)
It's great you are still in contact with Sofia Tillstrom. I wonder why he was so nervous before this match? Maybe it was the increased expectation after doing so well in Brisbane. I guess nerves are something he is going to have to learn to deal with if he is to do well in this sport and I'm sure he will.

Re: Grigor " The Great " in 2013 (General thread)
Nerves? We heard this excuse before for the cramping at RG. Think about this for a minute: nerves get the best of you in R1 on court 900 against Benny who is a solid player but you've beat 2 times before?? Come on now. Im not saying its not true but what I am saying is it is time he gets his head on straight. There is no fire in his game. He should have all the confidence in the world right now for obv reasons and if he doesn't well that's just scary.

Re: Grigor " The Great " in 2013 (General thread)
Well now he can only enjoy his doubles match with Baghdatis. It will be nice if they manage to pass a few rounds, but I don't see that happening with that draw. I'd love if he and Tsveti decide to play mixed doubles after they both lost so early, but probably that won't happen as well ...
