I think people need to calm down. He had a bad match and these things happen, especially at this stage of his career. Playing Sydney was always a bad idea and he would have been better going to Melbourne on a high from Brisbane. The best thing he can do is put today behind him and prepare for the AO. Life goes on.

100% tank job and Grigor didn't even bother to hide that!
At some point in second set he went to the chair before Fabio's serve land in his field. Ball was called out but Grigor still sat and umpire agree . It was that bad!

I've even recorded the first 30 minutes of this 'match' if you are interested to see until I gave up on recording this shit.

But don't worry You don't have to feel bad because the old Gri shown up today!
We all know what he is capable of and you hadn't trully convinced us he is mature now
We've warned you, haven't we?

Good to Great tweeted it was 49 c on court just before the match. We don't know what physical condition he's in, etc. No excuse to this once again bad decision going to Sydney. It's obvious tank job. He's no angel. We all know that.

Feel very bad for those spectators paid to watch it.

Hold your horses, people! First of all, he was not going to even come to Sydney, but they didn't manage to withdraw within the deadline, like the rest of the people who played a final last week. So he just had to play a match here.

Second of all, it was WAAAAAAY too hot here. Officially it was 42 degrees in the shade, the official measured temperature on the court was 52.8 degrees. People were refusing to come even to watch, to say nothing of playing! Many of the tennis players complained that the matches should have been suspended for a few hours due to the extreme heat. I have no idea what the organisers were thinking and why they didn't start the day at 10 a.m., instead of 11 a.m. when it was already 37-38 degrees. Then they should have give everyone a rest until probably 5 p.m.

Grigor played in the worst weather, in the worst possible court. It is all concrete and heats like hell. The commentators today were saying on TV that whoever wins the first set wins the match, because there is no coming back from it and the opponent just tries to get out of the sun as quickly as possible. Can anyone blame them?

I am sure you didn't want Grigor to chase balls for nothing and then get a sun stroke??? He is better off going to Melbourne and acclimatising there, which is exactly what they would be doing. Trust in him and his team that they know what is best.

By the way, he is in good spirits for the AO, he was just too heated today.
Greetings to all!

I watched the match and I was there on the ground with him. He did the right thing after losing the first set. There was never a chance of getting back in the match, not in these conditions. All of us who were there agreed and we know how it felt. So what was he going to do? Push himself to the brink, collapse perhaps? So that he can play one more match her and then go to Melbourne? I, personally, do not see the point.

We didn't feel bad at all, we understood and wished him luck and success in Melbourne. A couple of people will follow him there and his new fans (after they discovered him through the Brisbane tournament), also said that they'll keep supporting him during the Australian Open. NO ONE at the stands felt bad or cheated, we know how horrendous the conditions were. Blame the organisers for making everyone play, if you want to blame someone.

Thanks for the report proud bulgarian. It's always great to hear from someone who was there and I agree with everything in your posts. It's far too easy for people to sit behind a keyboard and criticise others.

Time to look forward to Melbourne

Good to know that you were there and thanks for explaining clearly the situation.

Now let's go Grigor. Take on Melbourne.

R3. Let's hope he doesn't have back-to-back 5-set matches. His fitness level is not that good yet.
