Default Brisbane R1 : Flo Mayer def. Giraldo 6-4 6-4

Good to see the Funkmeister starting the tennis season and ending the calendar year with a win.

Giraldo missed quite a few months at end of the season he had an operation.

No surprise here, my man Flo gets it done over this scrub.

Well, Mayer played horrible tennis last year, with the exception of about four tournaments. While Santi missed the last quarter of the 2012 season, I expected him to start this season with a win here. Obviously not, though. Congratulations to Mayer.

Giraldo is no scrub.

Yeah, horrible tennis will get you to #28 in the world.

Giraldo's not even top 50, so he's kind of a scrub at tour level.

Did you read my post?

I said that with the exception of a few tournaments, Mayer played on the whole pretty horribly last year. Which I'm sure he'd even admit himself.

Giraldo has been a finalist at tour level and reached many semi-finals and quarter-finals. That isn't exactly what a scrub would do, now is it?

Giraldo's best results were like 2 seasons ago, he did look like a good prospect at that time, but he hasn't improved on it and last season he was worse, I think he will struggle to be a tour regular this year.

Eh? So what if he hasn't improved. He's consistently been winning matches at tour level for three years now. That alone ridicules your labelling of him as a tour level scrub.

Last year he was 21-21 on tour, he won alot of matches at CH level that made him look better than he actually was.

Solid win for Mayer Probably next against Marcos. It'll be very tough match

Santi I know he hasn't played any match due to appendicitis.

Great for Flo, he has the kind of game that drives players like Giraldo nuts. However, I expected Giraldo to win, he usually plays well here.

Great result, Mayer has beautiful game. Hope he will take the title and play with Tomic at AO.

Tough draw. Everybody knows if Santi found a brain that worked he would be top 15 and would be pushing deep at Roland Garros. I'm hoping that's what his operation was really about, guess we'll see if he can find some form for the AO.
