Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
Just like Federer, when Rafa can't disguise his serve, he loses. Difference is, Rafa actually beat each multiple-Slam champion 12+ times.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
The bit that is making Rafa fans cry is the realisation he is anything but a warrior.
Much closer to a mouse.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
rafa should have come, even if he was to lose in the second round - heard the money prize for early losers went up this year
anyway, matt ebden takes his place (which means extra WC for aussie) so at least some of the aussies won't cry

Ebden was in already as Fish, Nalbandian and Zopp were out.
It's De Schepper who should benefit from the place as Mahut should get in directly rather than from the French wild-card.
Other beneficiary : Raonic will be seeded 12 then avoid a top-4 in R16.

Kind of looking like it, yep. Withdrawing because of a stomach virus when the tournament doesn't start for a couple weeks is very strange.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
Everythinbg about it is weird and suspicious. He´s been out of the tour for over 6 months already, if his knees are still an issue, why rush the comeback at all, they must have known best-of-5 matches on hard courts would be tough. The SA-clay swing is not that far away, why not wait until then? Plenty of good warm up-tourneys on softer surface + Acapulco 500?
If the knees are fine and he is fit, no stomach bug would jeopardise the AO, he´d still have time to recover. If he is not fit, playing Doha wouldn´t have changed it anyway. Then it´s back to the original question: Why rush the comeback to begin with??
I don´t know what, but there is something fishy about it, I don´t buy the stomach virus-explanation at all.

I doubt Raonic will come far enough for it to make any difference.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
Roger needs to win #18 here. I think it's the last chance

If I was in his situation I would prioritise the surface I feel most confortable on as well. Didn't he claim to be injured in RG 2009, though?
Anyway, slow HC suits him, if he was ready he would definitely want to play AO.

What the heck does this have to do with anything posted in this thread?

it seems that knees were still an issue, but they still hoped to be OK for the AO, but finally they decided not and to do like what you say : go back on clay for the SA swing.
