You can always try and get rules changed in the offseason, unfortunately the time that most player gets ideas about rules is during the season and they forget them or don't mention them when we're allowed to change them in the offseason.

But this is not totally black and white, like Supertom said a result like this might not be fair but what about 4-2 ret.? or 6-3 ret.? or 6-3 2-0 ret.? or even 6-3 5-0 ret.? There's not really a black and white thing where you can say ok this player would have won, this player won't, you either have to go for all retirements count, or all retirements don't count, and then you have results like 6-3 5-0 ret. not being fair.
