Default Q and A with Pratik

Yet another Q&A thread for the off season.

I have rarely posted in NT till now, so this could be the perfect way for other posters to get to know me better.

Let's have a go at it.

Well, if you like Jazz and the saxophone, you should check out:
My favorite things, Giant steps, Equinox, Blue Train.

In a sentimental mood by Duke Ellington and John Coltrane is of my favourites.
The work of Miles Davis and John Coltrane together is also very good.

If you like these I could recommend more

^^Nice.

Are you a vegetarian?

...Well, now that the most important questions have been worked off, we come to the secondary points:

How important is music in your life?

Why is Gasquet your favorite player?

Which other two or three active players come next on your list?

What's your least favorite player?

Who is your favorite All Time Great (tennis player), and why?

What's your favorite tennis match, and why? (for whatever reasons; including Gasquet or not, attended live by you or not even watched live on TV)

Who is the best looking WTA player?

Are you from a metropolitan area of India or rather from a sparsely populated (for Indian standards)?

Have you ever been in Europe, and if so, where exactly?

What are your favorite tennis tournaments, that you would like most to attend (also in case you have already attended them once)? Make a top 10 list of them and give reasons.

What do you like most at MTF ?

What do you like least at MTF ? Or what could be improved ?

Who are the funniest posters on MTF ?

If you could reprieve/unbann one of the permabanned MTF members, whom would you choose and why?

Why do you like the Tennis sport ? (Playing and watching doesn't necessarily need to be separated for this.)

[Simply skip the questions you don't feel like answering.]

Extremely important. One of the three most important things in my life.

There isn't really a logical answer for this. He just is. A large reason is his backhand, but it isn't the only one.
Part of it could also be because I saw his play a lot in 2007, which is about when tennis became my favourite sport(replacing cricket).

Federer, Haas and Llodra in that order.
In doubles: Paes, Nestor, with Stepanek a somewhat distant thrid.

I have not seen too many matches or highlights before before 1990. So, the only people who can qualify to be my favourite All Time Great would be Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Sampras, Agassi. Among these, in terms of my liking:
Federer>Sampras>Agassi>Djokovic>Nadal.
As I mentioned in the previous question, I don't like Nadal, and am not a big fan of Djokovic. Like the other 3, but Federer would be the favourite. My reason for that would be the "usual" ones, his elegance, etc...

Wimbledon 2007 QF: Gasquet beat Roddick 46 46 76(2) 76(3) 86. Did not manage to see the whole thing live because they didn't show it entirely on Indian TV, and I did not live stream back then. Seen the entire match multiple times, and highlights way too many times. Seeing that backhand on fire is just pure bliss. Of course, back then, his forehand too was really enjoyable to watch. As a Gasquet fan, this match has started holding more significance over time, as it is not too often that we see much of a "fighting spirit" in him now-a-days.

Not attended any till now
1)Wimbledon. Most prestigious tournament by far.
2)WTF. Would get to see top 8 players in action, which would be very tough even at a GS
3)US Open.(So high for super saturday, if it stays)Super saturday may be terrible for the players, but it would be an absolute treat as a spectator.
4)Australian Open. Hard>Clay for me
5)Roland Garros. May be my least liked surface, but a GS is a GS.
6)Halle. I love grass court tennis. Few big names would generally be there.
7)Queens. Same reason as Halle.
8)Paris Bercy. (Relatively) Fast indoor HC.
9)Davis Cup(QF or later). To experience that environment while watching tennis would be something different for tennis spectator.
10)Chennai. Only tournament in India.(This is a factor even though I am not very patriotic)

It has a good mix of tennis fans. You have the zealot fanboys/fangirls, the "sane" posters, the funny ones, the "statisticians", the clowns and the trolls. (Sometimes, one of these may start dominating, but as long as it does not last too long I don't mind). Although I don't post there, I like the concept of Player/Country forums which keeps away the haters, if you wish to have a conversation only with fans. Most users seem nice. Also, you can stick around just reading or "lurking" as they call it and still have a decent time.(My first post was almost 2 full years after I joined.

The inactivity in Doubles Forum. Which would probably be a result of very few users who follow(or even care about) doubles tennis.

Again not too sure that I can give a rational answer to this.
For the first few year(2003-2006) it was just Wimbledon and few other matches here and there when there was no cricket on. But as cricket started losing its charm(T20), tennis took over. Been my favourite sport for the past 5-6 years. Tennis is simple and easy to follow. I started liking it even more once I started playing(3 years ago). Playing tennis gives a good work out, and one of the very few workouts that don't get me bored.

Answered all.

Quote:

Too many people.
First of all, my favourite punching bag when it comes to India's losses, IPL(So, the answer to who would probably be Lalit Modi). India were at a position where we had a good batting side and were finally developing good fast bowlers but IPL changed it all. Most importantly, everyone's priority changed.

Second, Selectors and Dhoni. There is way too much politics in our team selection, which has hurt us a lot over the past few years.

If you were to stick to this series, I'll start off with Dhoni. He is a terrible Test captain. Bad field placement, arbitrary changes in bowling and/or batting order. In the final test, our passiveness in the starting of the fourth day was just baffling.(29 runs in 13 overs). It's almost as if they had given up. The captain did not do his job there. He did not assess the situation correctly.

While many players(Tendulkar/Sehwag/Dhoni/Zaheer/Bhaji...) could be blamed for lack of performance in the series, the fact is that the Indian test side is just terrible right now. It needs a major revamping, which will never happen if Dhoni is captain. Since I am sounding repetitive, I will give an example of why I believe this here. Jadeja was included in the test side(imo) partly because he just made two 300's in a span of a month in Ranji(3 triples in the year for him). What is the point of including someone like that if you send him at number 7? And since this stupid decision paid off with the almost 200 run partnership, Dhoni will think is good and keep making a mockery of the batting lineup.

*Gets off soap box*

I have lived in too few cities to actually have a favourite place to live. Where I choose to live would depend more on my work, as I don't really care much about the city. That said, I do not wish to stay in India, but if I were in India, Mumbai would be my choice.

Singles.
Doubles gets too boring while playing. For me, tennis is all about the flow of the game. Hit a shot, get into position for the next, and so on. Just watching while the other person hits get irritating.

Quote:
Originally Posted by Featherer View Post

Part of it probably has a lot to do with the amount of attention the Indian media has given their relationship over the past 13 odd years. The rivalry has got so ugly has if you have followed it as much as I did, you almost inevitably will take a side. Their off-court attitude during all this played a huge role in it. Over the years I slowly started favouring Paes more and disliking Bhupathi more.
On court, I always enjoyed Paes' game more than Bhupathis. He is definitely a lot more versatile and the better player among the two. Sticking to mens doubles, Paes has lifted the careers of many of his partners. Many of his partners have had the best years of their careers while with him(Bhupathi, Stepanek, Rikl, Damm, Dlouhy). In fact that makes all of his long term partners except Zimonjic who had a more successful partnership with Nestor. Without taking anything away from Bhupathi, who is a great Doubles player, he has always been the more "dormant" one in all his partnerships.

He is a clown. While some of his posts may have been funny, for the most part they were ridiculous. He deserved the permaban.

I used to play the harmonium when I was younger, but gave up, and am pretty sure that I don't remember how to.
